Sometime after noontime my browser (firefox) starts having trouble loading web pages like gmail and other typical sites. I didn't have any issues with it in the morning. The issue is that it gets stuck on the green loading circle, and sometimes I can bypass that with hitting the reload button constantly or hitting the back button and retrying the page again.

My internet cache did not take a large amount of space, and I wiped it just to be sure. I don't have many tabs open either as I set it so that firefox does not remember any history/cookies after i've closed the window.

I tried Chrome and it has similar issues.

It seems like it's only my computer that has these issues. My family members computers had no relatable issues.

During the morning I was downloading a game from steam that was a hearty 25 gigs worth of space, I only got around to 1.5 gigs.

a few days before that I had torrented a short video clip, but even after that I had no issues.

I ran R kill in safe mode with networking this evening after my computer just kind of froze up on me. I did a malware anti malware scan and nothing came up, and also TDS killer but nothing of the sort.

I searched this issue up on the net and some have said that it has something to do with a virus? Does it? I checked my tool bar add ons and nothing recently new was added that I was not familiar with.

Thanks !

Hi traptack -

EDIT - Please click on Follow this topic at the top right (as I have done), so you will not lose track of the topic.

Download all programs to Desktop, and Copy and Paste all Logs.

Please re run RKill in Normal Mode if you can.

Here are the 2 main links I have at the moment.

Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.
rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/
iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/

* Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
* If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
* A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
* If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
* Do not reboot until instructed.
* If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

NOTE - If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode.
When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.
Post it in your next reply.
NOTE. rKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.

I am not sure if you do have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware installed, or you just need to Update it to the latest version

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Free (aka MBAM): to your desktop.
- Do not accept the Free Trial Version at this time -
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

* Open up Malwarebytes > Settings Tab > Scanner Settings > Under action for PUP > Select: Show in Results List and Check for removal.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

Be sure to restart the computer if requested.
The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

Finally -

Clear Cache / Temp Files
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
• Please double-click TFC.exe to run it.
• For Vista, Win 7 / 8 right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
• It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
• Click the Start button to begin the process.
• Once it's finished it may reboot your machine.
• If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

If you and I am both looking at a Genuine (even Free) copy of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, I do not know what / where you are looking.

Open the program face > Click on Settings Tab (along the top) > Click on Scanner settings (about 1" below this) > Make sure that all of the boxes down the left side are ticked > Below this, there are 3 elongated boxes with a ( \/ ) Drop-down arrow > The top box is labelled (on the left side) > Action for Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP) > You click on the Drop down Arrow as mentioned above and Highlight (click on) the  the center item > Show in results list and check for removal.

This is repeated for the elongated box below this, that is directed at Potentially unwanted modifications (PUM) using the methods as given above. The 3rd box is optional, as a lot of people use Torrent programs that are called (P2P) Programs, and they are silly enough to continue their use, so they will not mark this box

If you do not have these items listed, then you do not have a current version of the program, or you have some other program installed.

Scroll down => Here to see a picture of exactly what I mean.

it upgraded me to this

emwp.png

assuming that's a false one would a system restore help? I will uninstall this right now.

I got the download from the link you provided :|

i'm now downloading from this site: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/

edit:

this was what I got when I First opened it

:hysterical:  ........................

One for the good guys (you). And thank you for not telling all the other members here.

After 10 years and about 6,000 posts at MBAM you would think I could get it right.

But remember that I am from Australia - :P

Now to rewrite the script on installing, updating, etc,.........

Now I will also get back to looking at your problem.

First -

Download Screen317 Security Check and save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt
* Please post the contents of that document.
Note:: If any security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so.

If you still have problems, Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus

Next -

Please download MiniToolBox to desktop and run it.
Checkmark following boxes:
* Flush DNS
* Report IE Proxy Settings
* Reset IE Proxy Settings
* Report FF Proxy Settings
* Reset FF Proxy Settings
* List Winsock Entries
* List last 10 Event Viewer log
* List Installed Programs
* List Devices (do NOT change any settings here)
* List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Click Go and post the result. (result.txt)

These issues seem minor, but could be related.

* COM+ Event System (EventSystem) is not Running.
   Startup Type set to: Manual

 * Security Center (wscsvc) is not Running.
   Startup Type set to: Automatic (Delayed Start)

 * Windows Update (wuauserv) is not Running.
   Startup Type set to: Automatic (Delayed Start)

Please download Farbar Service Scanner (FSS) and run it on the computer with the issue.
Make sure the following options are checked:
* Internet Services
* Windows Firewall
* System Restore
* Security Center/Action Center
* Windows Update
* Windows Defender
* Other Services

Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Please run ESET Online Scanner.

Run ESETOnlineScanner

Please use Internet Explorer as the scanner uses ActiveX
If you will not use Internet Explorer, please see 3 - 1 & 3 - 2
1 .Hold down Control (Ctrl) key, and click on This link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
2 .Click the eset online button.
3 .For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
3 - 1 .Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
3 - 2 .Double click on esetsmartinstaller_enu on your desktop.
4 .Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
5 .Click the Start button.
6 .Accept any security warnings from your browser.
7 .Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats"
8 .Click Advanced settings and select the following:
* Scan potentially unwanted applications
* Scan for potentially unsafe applications
* Enable Anti-Stealth technology

9 .ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this will take some time.
10 .When the scan completes, click List Threats
11 .Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan.
- Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
12 .Click the Back button.
13 .Click the Finish button.
* NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.

Hi -

I have had a quick look, but later today I (or someone else) will look deeper later.

From your Errors =>

An error has occurred (---Get Poicy Open key suc failed with 0, The Code is:0x422.).

This has been reported several times at Lenovo with Y480 and Y580 models, but I never found the solution on it. I spent some time on another topic recently chasing this.

Java 7 Update 13 (64-bit) (Version: 7.0.130)
Java 7 Update 45 (Version: 7.0.450)

Always remove all old Java, and be wary of any Add Ons in the Update
Java Auto Updater (Version: 2.1.9.8) <= Try to use this (in Control Panel) to update these to Update51

Run sfc /scannow to check installed files (unless done recently)

Go - Start > Programs > Accessories > Find Command Prompt > Right click and select Run as Administrator > OK any UAC.
Type sfc /scannow and hit Enter - Note the space between c and / as it must be there.
This will take about 15 minutes to check installed files against default install -
Note: If SFC could not fix something, then run the command again to see if it may be able to the next time.

Sometimes it may take running the sfc /scannow command 3 or more times to completely fix everything that it's able to.

The full problem is not there, but, will still keep asking and looking for you.

Do you wish to post this to Malware Removal Experts, or do you still want us to look here ??

do you mind going more in depth with the parts labled in bold? I want to update java (probably the best thing) but unsure of how to do so, don't want to download a faulty virus version.

and is there really malware issues that it needs to be moved up to those forums? I don't mind if you forward it to them, but dang that's quite someting. The issue persisted only two days ago again, but that was after a full week of no issues.
Internet speeds are fine right now as well.

Hi -

Sorry but I have been a bit busy the last 24 hours -

Java - Always Uninstall all old versions from Control Panel > Programs and Features.

When you reinstall, it may offer to add Google Browser and extra Toolbars. Just Untick them.

You have the Java Updater installed that should have updated to Current version.

You open the Java Icon in Control Panel and the second tab is Update.

This should update it to Current Version "OR" visit HERE for Java details

and is there really malware issues that it needs to be moved up to those forums? <= I feel that I am not helping you, or able to help you beyond a few basic items.

sfc /scannow is just a method to check your installed files and making any minor updates if needed.
sfc = System File Checker - The /scannow tells the computer to start the "scan now"
