Hi,

I've got a HP C4580 printer. Last week I tried to cancel a document (using the cancel button on the top) from printing and the printer completely froze. The screen was left on "Cancelling..." and none of the buttons had any control of the printer.

I had no option but to turn it off on the wall, and when I turned it back on the power light just flashed. I turned everything off and left it an hour, and now whenever the power is connected the printer switches on, but none of the buttons have any control of the printer.  If I connect the printer to a PC it will print documents, but the screen won't update with the status of the print (as it used too).

Has anyone experienced this problem and does anyone have suggestions on what I can do please?

Much appreciated,
Andy

Try deleting the printer and its drivers then do a reinstall.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried re-installing the driver/software, but it fails on Windows 8.1.

I've connected it to my Macbook, or even if it's not connected to any PC it won't come back to life. :(

If OldPhils's suggestion does not work, try a reset as explained by DexterM. (second post)

The combination of keys suggested in the reset appeared to do nothing, but the next time the power was turned on it came back to life - so thank you very much.
