First of all, welcome to BC.

I use Avast (Free) and have had no problems, others speak highly of AVG (free) and MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials, also free).

Avast :- http://www.avast.com/en-gb/hp-index-c?utm_expid=22755838-28.7bTIHnOOQT-7ucpjrMOzew.2&utm_referrer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.uk%2Furl%3Fs

AVG :-  http://free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage

MSE  :-  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/security-essentials-download

Other things you should have are anti-malware software. You will already have Windows Defender, but you could consider either Super Anti-Spyware and /or Malwarebytes, both of which you can get free from BC.

Super A/S        :-  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/superantispyware/

Malwarebytes  :-  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/malwarebytes-anti-malware/

Of course, the most important protector of your security on-line is you !  Don't click on links willy-nilly, and definitely not in e-mails unless you are certain you know who they are from. Remember, any e-mail that addresses you as 'Dear Customer' or 'Dear User' is not likely to be from your bank. After all, your bank does know your name, doesn't it ?

Thank you. And does it really matter which malware protection I download. I know a little about computers but I'm no tech wiz. I just wanna be as fully protected as I can be. I use the internet a lot lately for job searches and that can lead to a lot of sketchie sites.

You ask a common question for which you will receive varying opinions and recommendations. There is no universal "one size fits all" solution that works for everyone and there is no single best anti-virus. Every vendor's virus lab and program scanning engine is different. Each has has its own strengths and weaknesses and they often use a mix of technologies to detect and remove malware. You may need to experiment and find the one most suitable for your needs. Please see Choosing an Anti-Virus Program.
