xp boots aok, or seems to, but I'm seeing what looks like anomalies when I scan with antirootkit (ark) apps. first, novirusthanks ark, and it didn't report a rootkikt but it does report:
>Warning: Master Boot Record (MBR) appears to be modified and could be the result of an infection!<
so I ran some other arks, and they appear to give normal reports. But then I ran aswMBR (which is in the windows download area at bleeping), and it says 2, what seem to me to be, incompatible statements:
1) Disk 0 MBR read successfully
2) Disk 0 MBR scan | Disk 0 Windows VISTA default MBR code
Why would it report VISTA default MBR code on xp_sp3 system. VISTA never touched this hardware.
Is this "normal" or normal for aswMBR?? I've asked the NVT support folks but not sure they are supporting their free ark, and it looks like their paid commercial ark is not currently offered. As for aswMBR, not sure where to ask other than here. thanks.
