I have an unknown icon in the notification area on my windows Vista Computer. When I hoover the mouse over the icon it states, "New updates are available". If I right click, I don't get any messages at all. Two or three days ago I had the same experience on my XP computer. I thought it was a windows update. After installing this update on my computer it became infected with a virus and screwed up my MSE virus protection. I have both computers set for automatic updates. When did viruse start showing up in the notication area pretending to be Microsoft Updates? I would like to know where I could go in my Vista Computer to delete this icon. Since I have my computers set for automatic updates they should not be showing up in the notification area. Thanks for any help/

You know, the more I think about it, it may have been the windows malicious software removal tool, x86 for XP, that I had downloaded that screwed up my XP computer. I had just replaced my video card and my mind was not very well tuned in when I clicked on the icon which I thought was an important update from windows. I now have an icon on my Vista Computer that says it is the windows malicious software removal tool, x64. I am scared to install it since it screwed up my Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) on my XP computer and disabled it. Has anyone had any bad experience with this wiindow tool?
