I lost 5 years of bookmarks after running tfc.exe. I used tfc.exe to clear some space on my full hard drive and then firefox would not load.  I restored to most recent checkpoint, but firefox loaded as if I was a new user.

I have XP home sp3.  I tried looking in recycle bin, but couldn't find any places.sqlite files, where Firefox bookmarks are stored.  To make matters worse, I never made any backups of my bookmarks.  I know, serves me right.

Hello,

Did you check here:

You should enable the "show hidden files and folders" in folder options and then go to

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\bookmarkbackups

Bookmarks are usually saved automatically.

Check the link below for more information:

Regards,

Georgi

Thanks for the help, Georgi.  I checked the bookmarkbackups folder and the JSON file is dated today and has no old data.  I searched my c: drive for any bookmarksbackups folders = none.  There is no info in the restore option of the library.  It looks like all my old profile data was completely wiped.

I should have said earlier that tfc.exe wipes the recylce bin too.  So I am looking again at files deleted from the recycle bin using undelete.  I think I will stop there unless someone knows any easy way to locate raw bookmarked data on the drive that I can recover.

Recuva can recover data from hdd sectors that have not been re-written to since the files were deleted... it's worth a try.

I tried Recuva but it looks like reinstalling firefox over wrote whatever was there.  I don't think I could have anticipated this screw up.  Bad habit of not backing stuff up.  Thanks anyway.
