Hello All,

For the past few weeks I've been getting BSODs in Windows XP SP3 32-BIt at seemingly random intervals. Sometimes I can do several days with no problems, other times it'll happen 2 or 3 times in 1 day. I followed the excellent guide posted on these forums by usasma and am hoping someone can help me figure out how to fix this as it's driving me crazy. I have completed every step in the guide I linked, but can do so again if need be. I have a Dell Precision T3400 PC.

Here's what the debugger says:

If you have Daemon Tools installed...try uninstalling it and running without it to see if BSODs occur.

Hi Louis, thanks for your reply. I did have the Lite version installed previously, but I had uninstalled it after reading (before today) that it could cause similar issues. So the BSODs still happen even without it installed unfortunately.

You've done a search of your system for the named file?

You've searched the registry for orphan entries relating to DT?

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

Okay I did all the things you mentioned. Windows XP's built in search found sptd.sys in C:\Windows\system32\drivers (I haven't searched for USBPORT.sys yet, but can if need be).

I checked regedit and deleted a couple of DT releated entries, though I didn't find much of anything, or least I didn't think it was much. I have a program that deletes registry entries when uninstalling software so usually that's taken care of.

I did have the Lite version installed previously, but I had uninstalled it after reading (before today) that it could cause similar issues.

Uninstalling Daemon Tools won't remove SPTD. You need to download and run the removal tool from the below link.

http://www.duplexsecure.com/download/SPTDinst-v186-x86.exe

Run the tool and press the "Uninstall" button. Hope this helps.

Okay thanks. I'll try that and report back with whether or not it still does it. Thanks, I appreciate the link and help.

Thanks :).

Your current CPU tem is 61 Celsius per Speccy, while your ceiling is 72 Celsius.  Your hard drive temp is fine, 38 Celsius, welll under the 50 Celsius "standard" for hard drives.  Personally, I would expect the variance between the CPU and the hard drive to be 5-10 degrees...so you may want to watch what transpires when your system is under heavy load.  Solely as a point of comparison...my variance on this system is at 5 degrees between the two.

Windows install date is 19 Jan 2014.  What was wrong that led to clean install?

No security updates since 29 Jan...why?

Your SMART data is something I can't really opine about...but, from what I read, the threshold (1st data figure) should be smaller than the given value (2d data item).  Yours reads Hardware ECC Recovered: 073 (065) Data 00054DEBE0 , reference at http://www.hdsentinel.com/smart/index.php .Someone with more knowledge will have to confirm/refute my possible concern about this.

Your program hangs can probably be attrbuted to the 2MB of RAM you have...then again, they just may be program quirks (I have a video edit program that hangs no matter how much RAM is installed).

Just guessing here...your D1 STOP errors point to hardware/drivers, IMO.  My guess would be the nVidia graphics driver.  I would uninstall it, then reinstall.  But...you also seem to have problems with TeamViewer, which employs drivers and is another candidate, IMO.

Maybe others here have some thoughts on your displayed data, I hope :).

Mod Edit:  Removed unnecessary quote, it's easy to follow this topic without quoting every response - Hamluis.

My computer is in a room with 3 other computers running 24/7, one of which is a server, so that could account for some of the temperature variation. Plus I have the heat on since it's fairly cold here (or was earlier today). I also think the temp may have ramped up due to the test being run as well.

I had Windows 7 on this machine and it had too many issues and I thought maybe if I switched back to XP it would fix some of them. One of them was RAM related with not enough memory to do the things I needed to do.

I'm bad about security updates because they take forever and a day and I don't have time to do them. I'll see if they'll cooperate and install this afternoon.

Not sure about the SMART stuff, don't know a whole lot about that myself.

Yeah the 2 GB is definitely a limiting factor. PSP & Pale Moon (a fork of Firefox) tend to be memory hogs as well, but nothing too bad. It was much worse when I was on 7. And the memory spike to 80% or whatever it was could possibly be due to the test being run as well.

Yeah I figured it could be driver related as well. I think I solved one which was a NIC driver issue, the one I had was from 2007 and found one of the manufacturer's site from 2013. I'll try the video one and see if that helps.

What problems with TeamViewer are you referring to? I haven't noticed any issues with it in use anyways. It just sits in the background waiting for a connection when not being actively used.

Thanks for your suggestions/help/input. :)

Take a look at the errors listed per MiniToolbox :).
