Hello! I am looking for hopefully just some confirmation and nothing further. The situation is that I am helping a friend prevent any problems with her machine after she accidently clicked on a link in an email received from a possible hacked email account. I advised her to download Malwarebytes and it found 2 entries of a Trojan.huhc and removed them. I cannot tell you the locations or other details because I was doing this over the phone with her and she had no clue on what she should tell me. She did mention the word samsung to me. Sounds like part of the audio video hardware? Anyway we removed the threats there. I do not know if it came from the email or was already there. Did not rescan with that program. I had her download and run Spybot Search and Destroy and it did not find anything worse than  mild threats from tracking cookies, near as I can tell from what she told me.

I need to know if she is now okay with her machine or should we do anything else? She has windows 7, and has Avira. I also had her use the Spybot to immunize her browsers of Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Thank you for your input,

Auntna

Hello auntna. I moved this to the Am I Infected forum as this one requires a DDS log for assistance.

This threat is classified as a backdoor trojan. A backdoor trojan provides remote, usually surreptitious, access to affected systems. A backdoor trojan may be used to conduct distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, or it may be used to install additional trojans or other forms of malicious software. For example, it might be used to install a downloader or dropper trojan, which may in turn install a proxy trojan used to relay spam or a keylogger trojan which monitors and sends keystrokes to remote attackers. It might also open ports on the affected system and thus potentially lead to further compromise by other attackers.

After running these you will need to change All passwords. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Download TDSSKiller and save it to your desktop.
  • Extract (unzip) its contents to your desktop.
  • Open the TDSSKiller folder and doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.
  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue.
  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.
  • If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory (usually C:\ folder) in the form of TDSSKiller_xxxx_log.txt. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.

Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
  • After reviewing the log, click on the Clean button.
  • Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
  • Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
  • -- Note: The contents of the AdwCleaner log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you recognize and know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, return to AdwCleaner before cleaning...all detected items will be listed (and checked) in each tab. Click on each one and uncheck any items you want to keep (except you cannot uncheck Chrome and Firefox preferences lines).

    .
thisisujrt.gif Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.

  • Click Advanced settings and select the following:
  • Scan potentially unwanted applications
  • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
  • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, click List Threats
  • Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Click the Back button.
  • Click the Finish button.
  • NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.

Oh my! I was hoping we were done and okay. Well this is going to take some work and time since it is not my machine. I will have to travel over there hopefully soon to get this started. In the meantime should we disconnect her from the internet to protect her? Will that be enough for now until I can help her?

Be aware they may be quite some time in between actions so please don't drop me.

Thanks,

Auntna

This will stay open .. I would keep it off the net until scanned, especially if there are financials.

Hi Again,

Posted below are the logs for MiniToolbox and ADW Cleaner. I ran the TDSSKiller and it reported zero. I opened the report and tried to copy but I did not have a right click menu to do so. So I cannot post that one. These are all the reports I have done today. I will finish some other night.

We finally finished the last two scans. I am posting the Junkware and the Eset logs below. If I hear from you shortly I may be able to do something else today but maybe not. I will check later. Thanks!

Hello,

I have posted the last two scans in the above post for your review. I also want to know if we are to still follow the instruction to go to a clean computer and go ahead and change all the passwords or should we wait until we are completely done? She did call her bank and all seems well so far.

So just to be clear. We will run one more scan with Malwarebytes after the update and if that is clean she is safe to use her computer again? And does she need to change her passwords still?

Hi again,

We did the Malwarebytes scan and it still found the same 2 entries of the Trojan. It may be that since the first time we did the scan we did not do something right? I posted the log below for you to see.
