I have “Windows ME” and an annoying mouse that disappears every now and again when I move close approximately 70mm to the top left hand corner of a web page, in my document, or even my desk top, therefore making it almost impossible to click on anything in that area until it reappears again, even the standard tool bar, file, edit, view, insert, format, tools and then become visible by the time I’ve moved it to table outside this area in Microsoft word. When I press Ctrl key I get the circle that gets smaller but no mouse, only a hint where it is? Most frustrating when I’m looking in folders trying to click on C drive…

I would go to Google.com. You will find much to wade through and possibly a fix.

Are you using any extras like Comet Cursors? Have you checked mouse settings in the control panel? For instance, you might uncheck "hide pointer while typing" and see if that helps.

I bet it's a theme. I had one like that before. Press the 'Esc' key and it should clear out. This should cancel the effects of the theme temp.

After that just to go your Themes folder in Control Panel (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Themes) and you should find a setting box to change your theme to Deafult or cancel the current theme.

Hi...

Herk I have no extras like Comet Cursors?

I have checked my mouse settings in the control panel and I have "Hide Pointer While Typing" checked, in fact all the boxes are checked on that page...
Also I can remember changing my cursor from the standard to "Dangerous Creatures" that I found on the PC ie when the PC is working in the background the cursor changes to a "Wasp" and when busy a "Bug"

First, I'd go to themes and find Windows Standard then only leave the cursor checked, change it back. Uncheck "hide pointer while typing." See if that helps.

Hi...

When I choose "Windows Standard" I lost all my sound setting and it looked pretty bland, so I've reverted back to "Dangerous Creatures", and I've un-checked "Hide Pointer" while typing and it seems to be a little better, ie the mouse pointer dosen't disappear for as long, therefore it is more useable...

As anybody got an explanation as why the top left hand side of the screen has this anomaly... :flowers:

If I had to "guess" I'd say some sort of hidden boundary caused by a driver or program function.
Pointer location uses the X vs. Y thing for position ID.
You see it more with laptops that use both a stick and a pad.
This issue can drive a person nuts because there's so many things that can cause it.
If you happen to be using any third party mouseware or drivers beyond what windows supplies, removing them is always a testing option. So is trying a different mouse or even updating video drivers.
Knowing more specifics about your system and installed software would go a long way here.
If you think back to when it started, whatever was changed on your system at that time is the cause.

Uh, that's a list alright.
Perhaps posting what you see on the startup tab of msconfig would be best right at the moment.
A couple things did jump out at me however. You have quite a few memory optimization apps, at least 4 or 5. If any of those are running, kill 'em and see if the condition improves at all. They do more harm then good in most cases. There's no substitute for "real" memory. You have 512mb which should be fine.
I also notice "seekmo" listed. It's Adware and something I would remove.
Not real clear on this "menulab" thing but if it has anything to do with alternative menus for windows I'd be highly suspicious of it. That's more or less screwing with the windows shell like WindowsBlinds does, which has been known to reek havok on many systems.
WindowsME also has a known issue with mouse pointer speed. Slow it down and see if it makes any difference.
Try the above and post that msconfig list when you get a chance. :flowers:
Thanks.

Hi HitSquad

I'm sorry you drew the short straw...

While I'll admit too down loading Free software :inlove: I can only see four "Memory Optimizing" programs, which I have only used, or tried to use too free up memory when needed? Now I just Re-Boot, as I didn't get the result I thought I'd get or my PC just crashed...

Clean Ram - Free Version 1.2.0.0 which has now expired it's 320? day trail period a long time ago, did seem to work.

Ram Optimizer XP, wouldn't work obviously because I have "Windows ME" and have never used it because it crashed on installation?

RamBooster? made my PC run slowly, don't use...

MaxRAMFree Version 1.0.2.0 also made my PC run slowly, don't use...

When I "Ctrl Alt Delete" I can't see any of them, so are they killed? unless I start them...

Real memory 512mB? I'm sinking fast here, please don't get to technical... I know I'm a prime candidate for a "I D 10 T" PC user

As for "Menulab" was a sliding menu thing to add to web pages that I never did get around to use?

"Seekmo" I have have no idea where that came from :flowers:

Now for the msconfig "Start Up" I tried to copy and paste but it wouldn't let me? Please tell me I haven't got to write them all by hand

Mouse pointer speed is set to the mid point on the sliding scale?

Regards

You can take a snapshot like the one below.
You'll probably have to scroll the list and take a couple though.
