This extract is from the developer's website:

ERUNT and NTREGOPT in their current versions 1.1j are still compatible with Windows 7, but as in Vista, they will only work correctly if you turn off User Account Control in Windows' Control Panel (move the slider to the lowest position).

Have you turned off UAC?

ERUNT was last updated in October 2005.  If you are having problems with it, you may wish to consider using Tweaking.com - Registry Backup which is still being maintained and is fully compatible with Windows 7.

Thank you for replying.

Yes, I read the ERUNT 'warning' and UAC is turned off (slider at bottom - never notify)

Don't understand why it worked on Win 7 Home but doesn't on Win 7 Pro.

Many, many articles (even in Bleeping Computer) advise using ERUNT saying it is good.

Seem to remember that I had to do something to get ERUNT working for Home version and suspect same thing is needed for Pro version now - but CAN'T recall what I did. Have definitely turned off UAC (i.e. moved slider to bottom) but no joy.

I understand that ERUNT 1.1j is the latest so I'm sure there is no problem with the .exe.

I checked the README hoping that "a light would go on". but nothing

I tried running as administrator (which I am anyway) but no joy

Tried "compatibilty mode" - same result

I'm really frustrated because need to back-up the registry and trust ERUNT

Finally got it to work. How? Don't know!

Tried five things:

1. Did an EXPORT from REGEDIT

2. Upped silder for UAC by one ... got MANY windows warnings & ERUNT didn't work - so changed slider to bottom (ie UAC 'off')

3. In ERUNT checked box for "other open ...' - didn't work (didn't expect it too)

4. Unchecked above - got initial err the file coundn't be created

5 Ran ERUNT again - it worked !!  (still get err that initial file not found, but always got that err)

So bottom line  it works now ... but not sure why.

If anyone reads this, all  I can say is keep trying different things
