So, I was playing a l4d2 custom campaign (one that just links all of them together) and midway, I crashed for some reason.

- It was quite hot in my room and I had only noticed after the fact, and yes it's still winter and my heater wasn't on. Could my PC have simply over heated and it did this to prevent any damage from over heating components?

My entire screen was quite literally colorful, various long color scratch like marks etc, the sound kept looping. It took a few extra seconds after it recovered to boot up as well.

Could suggest a video card that is going bad, or it could be a driver issue, or just a bug in the game. You don't need to do anything about it, just see if it keeps doing it or not. If it keeps doing it, upgrade to the latest video drivers.
