This has been a long standing problem for us.  Accessing the internet, which is the primary use of this computer, is extremely slow.  I use the free version of Avast.  I have increased memory, run CCleaner regularly, run Malwarebytes, Hitman Pro , Spybot on occassion to see if it will catch something.  The performance improves immediately after running those, but then returns to extremely slow.  I do not use add-ons/extensions.

This is an older system running windows Vista with service pack 2.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Just looking at programs installed, I would uninstall the following:

Avast AV 9.5

Adobe Reader 9l5

Advanced Uninstaller

Agere Systems PCI-SV92PP Soft Modem.  If this is your Internet connection, I don't see how you can expect any connectivity to be more than "slow".

Glary Utilities

LSI PCI-SV92PP Soft Modem (Version: 2.2.98)

Microsoft Works (Version: 9.7.0621)

Spybot - Search & Destroy (Version: 1.6.2)
Turbo Lister 2 (Version: 2.00.0000)

I also see errors relating to Symantec products...but no Symantec product listed as installed.  If you decide to provide the previously requested Speccy link...perhaps we could ;better understand this.

Hi Luis

I am away from home today but came here to check in.

I thought the top part of my prior post was the Speccy info you needed?.....  I tried to follow your instructions but did feel I had missed something.  I will try again upon my return home.

This part of the above post came from Speccy. Apparently there was more there for you to access? that my copy did not allow?

Here is the specy report:

Operating System
Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit SP2
CPU
Intel Celeron 420 @ 1.60GHz 48 °C
Conroe-L 65nm Technology
RAM
4.00GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 333MHz (5-4-4-14)
Motherboard
eMachines EMCP73VT-PM (CPU 1) 20 °C
Graphics
E182H (1366x768@60Hz)
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 7050 / nForce 620i (Acer Incorporated [ALI])
Storage
149GB Seagate ST316081 5AS SCSI Disk Device (SATA) 38 °C
Optical Drives
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH40F SCSI CdRom Device
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

Also, I am not exactly sure about your comment about the Agere Modem.  This came with the computer (I believe) but we have added a Neatgear wireless unit.. Are you saying these are in conflict with each other?

Thank you

Louis,

Here is the Speccy link:

http://speccy.piriform.com/results/5BF7AxYJW4DotIoRxEJNM7l

Also, a question for you

Am I running two virus software programs?  I really like Avast- have used it on a number of computers and am hesitant to remove it.  Will I still have virus protection if I do?

Is this perhaps part of my problem? Multiple virus software programs running?

Thank you

I suggested uninstalling Avast based on the premise that your version seems outdated...I would uninstall it and replace with latest version...sorry for not explaining :).

The SRTSPX errors relate to Symantec Real Time Protection Service, which doesn't appear to be installed now.
