Hello, I have received the hated ICE Cyber Crime Center virus.  I downloaded HitPro to a flash drive and attempted to boot the computer, but when I opened the boot menu there was no way for me to toggle down to select the USB drive option (the keyboard was not functioning).  I also tried starting the computer with the USB in the drive, but it says that it cannot boot it because operating system is not present.

My operating system is Windows XP.  Am I doing something wrong with booting from a USB drive, or is there another option for me to eliminate this terrible virus?  Thanks for any help!

Try this please. You will need a USB drive.

Download GETxPUD.exe (http://noahdfear.net/downloads/GETxPUD.exe) to the desktop of your clean computerRun GETxPUD.exe A new folder will appear on the desktop. Open the GETxPUD folder and click on the get&burn.bat The program will download xpud_0.9.2.iso, and upon finished will open BurnCDCC ready to burn the image. Click on Start and follow the prompts to burn the image to a CD. Next download driver.sh (http://noahdfear.net/downloads/driver.sh) to your USB drive Remove the USB & CD and insert it in the sick computer Boot the Sick computer with the CD you just burned The computer must be set to boot from the CD Gently tap F12 and choose to boot from the CD Follow the prompts A Welcome to xPUD screen will appear Press FileExpand mntsda1,2...usually corresponds to your HDD sdb1 is likely your USB Click on the folder that represents your USB drive (sdb1 ?) Confirm that you see driver.sh that you downloaded there Press Tool at the top Choose Open TerminalType bash driver.sh Press Enter After it has finished a report will be located on your USB drive named report.txt Remove the USB drive and insert it back in your working computer and navigate to report.txt

Please note - all text entries are case sensitive Copy and paste the report.txt for my review

Hello bourgja2,

There was a bit of a mixup here. My apologies about that. I'm working on straightening it out. The instructions that were there should be restored before too long either in the post above or below this one.

Download http://noahdfear.net/downloads/rst.sh to the USB drive
  • Insert the USB drive and CD in the Sick computer and boot the computer from the CD again
  • Press File
  • Expand mnt
  • Expand your USB (sdb1)
  • Confirm that you see rst.sh that you downloaded there
  • Press Tool at the top
  • Choose Open Terminal
  • Type bash rst.sh
  • Press Enter
  • After it has finished a report will be located at sdb1 named enum.log
  • Plug that USB back into the clean computer and open it
Please note: If you have an ethernet connection you can access the internet by way of xPUD (Firefox). You can perform all these steps on your sick computer. When you download the download will reside in the Download folder. It can be found under the File tab also. You can similarly access our thread by way of this OS too so you can send the logs that way.

Please also note - all text entries are case sensitive

Copy and paste the enum.log for my review

P.S.-- Okay so I have posted the enum.log as requested.  I was wondering if there is any danger to my "sick" computer right now, such as whether files might be destroyed or whether (while online) it might be possible for someone to steal data from it.  If it is not appropriate to ask those questions right now, I will just wait for further instructions.  Thanks!

Hello

Can you use the computer at this time? Does the computer boot to the desktop normally?

No, whenever I boot up normally it would start up Windows and then immediately display the "your computer is locked" message.  There is a screen asking for money and there is no way to do anything else with the computer.

If I boot up in any version of Safe Mode (including Safe Mode with command prompt), the computer will not enter safe mode but will restart itself.  The only way I have been able to use it is to hit F12 and boot through a CD with the XPud program that you gave me.  I have kept the computer on with this program running, but unplug my modem when not needed.  The safe computer I am using is a laptop connected to the same modem through a wireless router.  I can also boot into Microsoft Recovery Console with C:\ prompt, and can delete files but I do not think that I can run programs through it.

I am hoping to be rid of this virus so that I can access my desktop again normally.  The last time I backed up my files was one year ago, and I am hoping not to lose the files that I have created since then.  I tried to use the XPud program to save some files to a USB, but they were unreadable.

Let's see if there is an available registry backup we can use to help get your computer booting properly
  • Insert the USB drive and CD in the Sick computer and boot the computer from the CD again
  • Press File
  • Expand mnt
  • Expand your USB (sdb1)
  • Press Tool at the top
  • Choose Open Terminal
  • Type bash rst.sh -r
  • Type 857
  • Press Enter
  • After it has finished a report will be located at sdb1 named restore.log
  • Please try to boot into normal Windows now and indicate if you were successful
Please note - all text entries are case sensitive

Copy and paste the restore.log from your USB drive for my review

Okay but before I do this, I am wondering if I would lose any documents or photos that I created after the restore point date (Dec. 13)?

Okay, I was able to boot Windows normally and here is the restore.log that I got.  Hopefully things will be okay now, but I suspect that there will be some more malware removal that we still need to do.

Hello bourgja2

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.
