Hi, my friend’s brother has an Acer Aspire 5536, with an Athlon x2 64 processor.  The laptop came with Vista and he upgraded to Windows 7 via the free Acer W7 upgrade disks.  He now has a problem and wants to re-install W7 but asks a couple of questions.

a.)  Would a factory restore take him back to the original Vista OS or would the upgrade to W7 also have added a W7 restore partition?

b.)  If it restores to Vista, can he use the same W7 upgrade disks to reinstall W7, he still has the product key?

Thanks

Dave

From what you say, I suspect that a factory restore will take him back back to Vista and he would then have to upgade again to 7.

Yes he will be able to use the same upgrade discs and product key.  If the upgrade was OEM pre-activated then he can just re-install. If he had to activate after upgrade the product key is tied to that laptop so he should be able to activate again automatically, or failing that by telephone.
