I thought I posted this, was it deleted by a mod? I'm not sure where it went. If I'm mis-posting, please let me know. I was instructed by boopme to post a new topic here.

Merged with original post - Hamluis.

My Dell Studio 17 running Windows 7 and MS Office 2010 has begun freezing several times throughout the day and is getting progressively worse.

boopme walked me through cleaning it for virus' and said it is clean. You can see that thread here.

He said to post here to run further diagnostics.

Please help!

Thank you.

And FYI - the fan is on a lot. Maybe that has something to do with it? It does have little feet that raise it a 1/4 inch off the table... just thought I'd mention it in case.

Is there a reason you have two backup programs installed?

I see a number of problems with Shadow Copy/Volume Snapshot Service, which is used for facilitating backups

I don't see anything that directly correlates with this, but...IMO, this could indicate a damaged file system.

I would uninstall CrashPlan...then run the chkdsk /r command on the Windows partition...then run the sfc /scannow command.

Then...wait for a freeze.

There doesn't appear to be any overheating with either your hard drive or your CPU/system.

I didn't realize I had two. Which two do I have? I need to keep Crashplan - it's my lifeline in case the computer dies, is there anyway to do the scans while it's running? Maybe I can contact their customer support and see if it has something to do with the settings?

You have CrashPlan...which results in a number of errors being logged...and Macrium Reflect, which reflects no errors.

You decide :).

Also, what do you mean by freezing? All of the sudden everything stops? Can you still move your mouse? Does the screen go black?

Also does it happen at random, or when you do something specific?

I deleted Crashplan's cache and uninstalled it, then ran both chkdsk /r and sfc /scannow. It hasn't frozen today (Friday)

It used to just freeze and we'd have to push the power button to get it to do anything. In the lower left corner it would say "waiting for cache" or "waiting for app cache" and then lock up. My husband removed Google Talk because he thought that was the offender and thought that helped.

Right before I deleted crashplan, it froze and I had to shut it down. When I tried to restart it, it said Windows couldn't start and asked if I wanted restore from a system restore point. I said "no". It then failed to launch so I shut it down again and tried restarting and that worked.

So far it seems not to have any issue. I'm going to wait another day, then reinstall crashplan to see how it behaves with it reinstalled.

I deleted Macrium Reflect also. I'm not sure if it was running or not.
