Gentlemen,

I too am having problems maxign out my CPU's while on the internet. Here is my snapshot and Mini tool box results. Let me know what else you need to know. I have run chkdisk and was clean. I ran defrag and it said it was not needed. I had trouble running SFC scannow. It wanted my system disk which I put in and it completed but never asked for sp-3, never showed that it was actually copying anything either. My orig CD rom drive crapped out and I now use an external so it may not be finding it as it will only briefly fire up and flicker. If I run again without the disk in, it still asks for it so I assume it didn't find it on the previous attempt. See what you guys think.

Thanks,

Ray

Welcome aboard p22002758.gif

p22002970.gif Download Security Check from here or here and save it to your Desktop.

  • Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
  • Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

NOTE 1. If one of your security applications (e.g., third-party firewall) requests permission to allow DIG.EXE access the Internet, allow it to do so.
NOTE 2 SecurityCheck may produce some false warning(s), so leave the results reading to me.

p22002970.gif Please download Farbar Service Scanner (FSS) and run it on the computer with the issue.
  • Make sure the following options are checked:
    • Internet Services
    • Windows Firewall
    • System Restore
    • Security Center/Action Center
    • Windows Update
    • Windows Defender
    • Other Services
  • Press "Scan".
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

p22002970.gif Please download MiniToolBox and run it.

Checkmark following boxes:
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices (do NOT change any settings here)
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click Go and post the result.

p22002970.gif Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (aka MBAM): https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/malwarebytes-anti-malware/ to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

Be sure to restart the computer.

The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

p22002970.gifDownload Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit from HERE to your Desktop.
  • Unzip downloaded file.
  • Open the folder where the contents were unzipped and run mbar.exe
  • Follow the instructions in the wizard to update and allow the program to scan your computer for threats.
  • DO NOT click on the Cleanup button. Simply exit the program.
  • When done, please post the two logs produced they will be in the MBAR folder..... mbar-log-xxxxx.txt and system-log.txt

p22002970.gif Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/
iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/

  • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
  • If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
  • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
  • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
  • Do not reboot until instructed.
  • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode.

When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.
Post it in your next reply.

NOTE. rKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.

NOTE Do NOT wrap your logs in "quote" or "code" brackets. Do NOT use spoilers.

SIDE NOTES -something is worse but I guess you'll find that out. I still seem to be infected, I am getting other ad windows opening and one notice of a forged page, not sure if it was legit or not, I just closed it.

p22002970.gif You're running two AV programs, McAfee and SparkTrust AntiVirus.

You must uninstall one of them.

I suggest SparkTrust AntiVirus goes. It doesn't look like a trusted utility.

p22002970.gif Did you personally disable system restore for whatever reason?

p22002970.gif Uninstall SparkTrust PC Cleaner Plus.

Registry cleaners/optimizers are not recommended for several reasons:

  • Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.

The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.
  • Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that will not cause problems when removed, another may not find the same entries, and still another may want to remove entries required for a program to work.
  • Not all registry cleaners create a backup of the registry before making changes.  If the changes prevent the system from booting up, then there is no backup available to restore it in order to regain functionality. A backup of the registry is essential BEFORE making any changes to the registry.
  • Improperly removing registry entries can hamper malware disinfection and make the removal process more difficult if your computer becomes infected. For example, removing malware related registry entries before the infection is properly identified can contribute to system instability and even make the malware undetectable to removal tools.
  • The usefulness of cleaning the registry is highly overrated and can be dangerous. In most cases, using a cleaner to remove obsolete, invalid, and erroneous entries does not affect system performance but it can result in "unpredictable results".

Unless you have a particular problem that requires a registry edit to correct it, I would suggest you leave the registry alone. Using registry cleaning tools unnecessarily or incorrectly could lead to disastrous effects on your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. For routine use, the benefits to your computer are negligible while the potential risks are great.

p22002970.gif Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Alternate download: http://www.itxassociates.com/OT-Tools/TFC.exe
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

p22002970.gif Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Scan button.
  • When the scan has finished click on Clean button.
  • Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

p22002970.gif Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.

p22002970.gif Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner

  • Disable your antivirus program
  • Click on "Run ESET Online Scanner" button.
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
  • Click Start
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Scan archives
  • Click Start
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, click on List of found threats
  • Click on Export to text file , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
NOTE. If Eset doesn't find any threats it'll NOT produce any log.

Hello!

I have uninstalled the SPARKPLUS applications and yes, I had disabled system restore the other day. I had run a scan in SAFE MODE and thought you were suppose to disable it. I enabled it today before I started and created a restore point. Follows is a list of logs as requested. I am however re-running ESET because I had unchecked CLEAN when the instructions read to check LIST THREATS. It was after I had started the scan I felt I should have left that checked as well. Anyway, it did find 14 threats although some of them seem to be in my original WINDOWS System which I still have on an unused partition. I had reinstalled WINDOWS a number of years back and renamed it WINDOWSII. I was always leary of deleting the original WINDOWS. Anyway...

#1 TFC cleaned 1047mb and restart was required

ESET was able to clean all 14 files on the second scan. Scan took about 5 1/2 hrs for approx 227,000 files.

My programs like WORD & Xcel are running good as well as some games on my hard drive. Browsing is still an issue though.

I am up to date onFirefox but yet to do Adobe.

Facebook is really bad loading images.

I up dated my graphics driver but am not sure if there are other drivers I should update as well.

I also downloaded & installed YESSCRIPTS and black listed Facebook as I got several script warnings. I took off SMOOTH SCROLLING in my options as well.

I thought there was someplace to load smaller images but I don't remmebr where. Is there an easy way to update all my drivers all at once rather than gong through 1 by 1?

Some pages are better on I.E..

Let me know where to go from here, Thanks!

WHen I RESET F.F. FAcebook does not display correctly, there are no images and the format is lost, everything is a mess, also I get error messages whenever I try to connect to a site it tells me the site isn't trust and I have to overide. It even does it to the FF Support page.

The general problem of high CPU usage also exists in I.E. but in some cases to a lesser extent.

I reset I.E. using the FIXIT procedure. Facebook now loads images BUT it takes a good 10 mins. It will then proceed to go NOT RESPONDING anytime I click on something. FInally it locked up at 100% CPU and 1.17g P.F. I did prompt me if I wanted to only view content from a trusted site to which I said yes.

I am now back on to try F.F. again. I did back up on bookmarks & passwords only then went to control panel to uninstall but it would not initiate.I am able to click on CHANGE PROGRAM but nothing happens. I uninstalled another program to verify the ADD/INSTALL Utility was working. I believe they gave alternate instructions to uninstall in case of failure. I'll be back...

Thanks!

I was able to finally uninstall FF completely and re-install. I immediately got an error message statign tha tI was trying to access an untrusted site, but it was the mozilla.org homepage. Also still getting unresponsive script warnings.

In I.E. I get a lot of page has loaded with errors messages relating to js.scripts for redirect pages, it will then ask if I want to only see trusted info from that page.

Have any of the tests we have run tested my router, a friend of mine suggested I look into it as a cause for the sluggishness. I do own another one very similar to the one I am running but not sure how to swap them out to test.

Try to bypass the router and wire your computer straight to the modem.

See how it goes.
