Many programs I try to run have stopped working.

My HP Support Assistant, Hardware Diagnostic Tools stopped working,  I have tried removing them and downloading current copies, but they still don't work.  When I try to run HP Support Assistant, I get a msg that HP Assistant Installer has stopped working so I can't install it.   When I double click on Hardware Diagnostic Tools, I get a message that it has stopped working.   Hardware Diagnostic Tools is listed in my Programs in Control Panel.  HP Active Support LIbrary is listed in Programs too.  I tried to download Microsoft Fix It tool, but I can't get it to work either.  A couple of small programs I downloaded to scan my files also wouldn't work.   Help!

Please post the HP model next time along with the changes before this started to occur. Were you infected or are you logging in as the admin account?

My desktop computer is a HP p6210f with OS Windows 7 - 64bit.  I have 6 GB RAM.   I don't remember any major changes.  When I logged on, I started getting messages that my HP health check program had stopped working.   It was scheduled to run a scan on my computer once a month.   I'm the only one that uses this computer and I log on each time as the Admin. account.   I've had a few malware problems before, but regularly scan with Malwarebytes and HitmanPro.  I had a persistent problem with a PUP. malware which I was finally able to manually get rid of it.  

I did a clean boot to see if there were compatibility issues with other programs, but still have the same problem.

Can you try the sfc /scannow command?

Yes, I have already run cmd: sfc /scannow several times.  It found nothing.

Download MiniToolBox and run the program. Select
List Last 10 Event Viewers, List Installed Programs and List Users, Partitions and Memory Size then click Go.
A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.

 

Download Speccy and then install the program.  To post and publish a snapshot of your PC.
. In the Menu bar, click File -> Publish Snapshot
. Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard
. On your next reply, right-click on a empty space and click Paste on reply box then click Post.

I had downloaded and run the MiniToolbox before and saw all the errors but wasn't sure what to do about them.   When I manually checked my Event Viewer, there was nothing in it.

I did a cold boot to see if there were compatibility issues with other programs, but still have the same problem.

 

Is it a restart or powering on when you say cold boot or clean boot...? You can disable the HP Health Check on bootup by typing services.msc (Enter) on Start orb search box. Locate HP health check - double click then disable - Apply, exit. Did you download the softwares from here?

 

:exclame: Remove outdated Java plugin from your Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs.

I guess it was a clean boot, not a cold boot.  I shut down all the start up programs on a reboot to see if any of them were causing incompatibility problems with the installs, but it didn't help.  I downloaded the HP software from their website and also tried using the HP Recovery Manager on my computer.  I just tried again at the link above and when I tried to install HP Support Assistant, it started installing but then stopped with the message, "HP Support Assistant Installer stopped working" again.   While at the HP link you furnished, I ran a scan and got the following message"

Removed the 2 Java files from Add or Remove Programs.

Also downloaded the Hardware Diagnostic Tools again, it updated the one on my computer, but when I tried to open it, I got this message again, "Hardware Diagnostic Tools has stopped working.........grrrr."

In Add or Remove in Control Panel, there is an entry there......"HP Product Detection".   I couldn't find it on a search, so I tried to repair it and I got this window message:

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package 'GmdClient.msi' in the box below.

I tried searching for it but couldn't find that folder.

I found this HP page on "Resolving MSI Startup Errors" but not sure how to proceed.

The article stressed out the causes of editing or using registry cleaners. Did you happen to have done or used any registry cleaning softwares? Practically, I don't use any HP support products or software on my HP Pavilion laptop.
