I have been having an issue uploading or saving pics and documents for the past couple of weeks. Ive had this problem using Chrome, IE and FF. I've been able to upload and download in Safe Mode w networking and in a Guest account. I attempted a Clean Boot where I disabled everything and the problem got so bad that I couldn't even open task manager and got a black screen with an error message which said, "Failure to dilly security and login options." Since it was a clean boot w antivirus disabled, I forced a shut down and booted up in safe mode again.

I have uninstalled Chrome and FF completely and disabled add ons. I still get the freezes/hang ups when I run those browsers in safe mode.

The freezes start with which ever browser I'm using and then slowly spreads to the rest of the computer, where I am unable to do anything. Sometimes they last for over an hour. Often I just close my laptop, force it into sleep mode and the later open it. If I try to upload anything from that point it does it again. If I just close the browser, it will let me use the computer like normal. But usually during the freeze, I cannot open or close anything. Task Manager becomes useless. All I get are error messages saying that Windows is not responding and giving me a choice to close the program or wait. Neither option does anything, and eventually even those error messages start to freeze/hang. I'm not sure if this is a virus because I figured it would affect the guest account as well. The last time I successfully saved and uploaded pictures without issues was in Dec 2013.

I am using Kaspersky for anti virus which is up to date.
I have Windows 7 Home premium
The Chrome and FF are both latest versions

I look forward to your wisdom and help! This is so annoying.

Description: Windows cannot access the file C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\Projects\SystemIndex\Indexer\CiFiles\00010015.ci for one of the following reasons:
there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage
drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing.
Windows closed the program Microsoft Windows Search Indexer because of this error.

Program: Microsoft Windows Search Indexer
File: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\Projects\SystemIndex\Indexer\CiFiles\00010015.ci

The error value is listed in the Additional Data section.
User Action
1. Open the file again.
This situation might be a temporary problem that corrects itself when the program runs again.
2.
If the file still cannot be accessed and
    - It is on the network,
your network administrator should verify that there is not a problem with the network and that the server can be contacted.
    - It is on a removable disk, for example, a floppy disk or CD-ROM, verify that the disk is fully inserted into the computer.
3. Check and repair the file system by running CHKDSK. To run CHKDSK, click Start, click Run, type CMD, and then click OK. At the command prompt, type CHKDSK /F, and then press ENTER.
4. If the problem persists, restore the file from a backup copy.
5. Determine whether other files on the same disk can be opened. If not, the disk might be damaged. If it is a hard disk, contact your administrator or computer hardware vendor for
further assistance.

Did you run the chkdsk /r command, as suggested in some of your error messages?

Hi Louis,

I don't mean to sound dumb, but is that similar to a disk clean up? When I put chkdsk into the run command, nothing happens. And the error messages I've been receiving never suggested I check disk, just that the programs had to close. I will attempt to rin it now from cmd.

Thanks,

~~ E

Ok, Louis,

I attempted a check disk at start up, it flashed pretty quickly that the disk was clean. What should I try next?

Thank you so much for your help!

Louis,

I'm running chkdsk again. It went by way too quick last time. I had to search to figure out how to run it as an administrator and now it's actually doing something.

Hi Louis,

The chkdsk finally finished running. It had found a batch of corrupted files which it fixed/replaced. So, the uploading and downloading is working again. But now I have a new problem. My Kaspersky won't turn back on. I went into msconfig and checked it to enable it. And when I click apply, it automatically unchecks itself. So, I'm trying several things to turn it on. But msconfig isn't working, it's not working from the program itself or from my control panel. Should I uninstall and reinstall?

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Louis,

I uninstalled and reinstalled Kaspersky and it's back on now. After doing that, I tested to see if the uploading and downloading still worked and it does. Thanks for your help. If I had gotten an error message that said to check disk, I would have. But everything I saw were errors about the applications no longer working and asking if I wanted to wait or cancel them. Anyway, I noticed my husband was starting to have issues with his doing similar things. Maybe he needs a check disk run as well. Anyway, thank you for your time and help. Please take care :)

Glad you seem to have overcome whartever was wrong :).

FWIW:  To run chkdsk /r...Start/Run...type chkdsk /r , then hit Enter.  Type Y in new screen, hit Enter.  Reboot...the command will execute before booting into Windows when complete.

Happy computing :).

Louis
