I recently had a royal mess with my desktop. I ended up doing a total system restore as I had no restore point available. I know probably shouldn't have jumped the gun.

But it is what it is  :(

My problem now is I can't get my pictures/videos out of the hard drive. I need a little bug to crawl into my hard drive and retrieve my pictures/videos.

If the feds can do it can't I? I would like to do this before I set up my new, ever so dreaded, loaded with Windows 8 desktop  :-(

Your help is greatly appreciated :-)

It all depends what you mean by a total system restore? If you carried out a factory reset then it's probable that the system partition was deleted and then recreated. In this case the chance of recovering any data is slim and would probably require the services of a specialist data recovery company ($$$).

You could try - http://www.piriform.com/recuva. It might retrieve something but don't get your hopes too high.
