My system is Windows XP, Version 202, Service Pack 3, 2.31 GHz, 3.25 GB of RAM. I have 398 GB free of 465 GB of hard drive space.
I feel like it starts out fine and speedy when I launch Firefox but then within time it bogs down in slowness when going from tab to tab. I feel like this has just happened in the last week or two. It also is slow to start up the computer. Once I close the browser and restart it, however, it runs very quick.
Now, I do have Microsoft Security Essentials and also an outdated McAfee. I know there can be a conflict with two AVs and I've had this combination for a while and hasn't been this sluggish. I suppose the first step should be to uninstall McAfee?
I also have iTunes and its accessory programs that might be slowing things down (but I use it to sync and charge my iPod).
I'm wondering if there is a way to view what's running and then have the experts determine what doesn't need to be running and using the resources?
I have run MSE, Spybot, SuperAntiSpyware, and Malwarebytes and nothing comes up so I'm wondering if there are just too many programs running. I do not need to run Defrag either.
I would greatly appreciate any feedback and guidance on how to get the machine to run quicker again.
