Hello

Sorry to ask for such a mundane thing but I have read that Microsoft Security Essentials is not that wonderful with Windows XP SP3 and I have removed it and thought I could perhaps find a recommendation here on Bleeping Computer for ones that are well regarded...any suggestions please for preferred downloads of antivirus and could you pleasee also suggest where it is safest to download this program, if you have it?  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

p.s. I did a scan using Emisoft and was able to remove Malware in this way that had infected my computer.  Thank you to BleepingComputer.com for the help and download referral!  :)

Hi,

Please read quietman7's article on Answers to common security questions - Best Practices.  This gives good advice on selecting security products and makes some suggestions for products to consider.

....and could you pleasee also suggest where it is safest to download this program, if you have it?

It's always best to download a program directly from the vendor's web site to avoid bundled software often found when downloading from a third-party hosting site. However, in some cases even the vendor's download link may redirect you to one of those third-party sites.

All the programs hosted here at BC area are perfectly safe.
