I was noticing for a couple hours that my computer was slow connecting to sites so I decided to use my Apple Computer a while and ran Advanced System Care which has been working well for me.

A couple hours later I came back and there's a flag that Firewall is off so I selected the link provided to turn it back on and it says it cannot be turned on so I should turn it on manually.   Then it says "what settings do you want to use" and I chose Defaults it then says it cannot be connected and gives me Error Code 0x8007042c.

I tried using system restore as recommended and it did restore but didn't fix the problem

Whenever i try to connect to a site using "history" it won't connect unless I type in the address manually.

I didn't turn the Firewall off.   The only thing I did and it was right before this happened is that I got an update from Firefox, or at least i thought it was but now I'm wondering. :orange:

How can I fix this and what do you figure is a likely cause? :smash:

Thanks for suggestions

I just tried to install Windows 7 Firewall Control  6.1.9.53 and I got this meesage:   Windows Firewall Control Service not Running

I don't have Windows 8 - I have Windows 7 - since the program says Windows 7 Repair I'm not sure why I'm getting a message about Windows 8?  :smash: :smash: :smash:

So then I downloaded Remove It Pro from Major Geeks.   It ran a few second then nothing, no report, no nothing?    Is that the proper outcome?

How can I fix this and what do you figure is a likely cause?

The IObit programs that you are running will never help this problem.

It sounds more like software, rather than hardware to me .......

First -

Download Security Check by Screen317 from HERE
* Save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
Note: If a security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so.

Next -

Download MiniToolBox, Save it to your desktop to run it.
Close any Firefox browsers you may have open
Checkmark the following boxes:
• Flush DNS
• Report IE Proxy Settings
• Reset IE Proxy Settings
• Report FF Proxy Settings
• Reset FF Proxy Settings
• List content of Hosts
• List IP configuration
• List last 10 Event Viewer log
• List Installed Programs
• List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
• List Minidump Files
Click Go and copy / paste the result (Result.txt).

Now run these -

Please download to Desktop and run RKill by Grinler.
A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear.
This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.

Please post the small log back here

Important: Do not reboot your computer until you complete the next step.

Now:

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
NOTE : Please close or save all work, as the computer will be Rebooted
Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
Click on the Scan button. (only once)
AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
If you see any which you do not want removed, remove the check mark next to it.
Next: Click on the Clean button (only once) to remove the selected items.
You will receive a message telling you that all programs will be close so that the infections can be removed.
Click on OK, and then OK again to confirm the reboot.
When cleaning process is complete a log (AdwCleaner[S0].txt ) of what was removed will be on your desktop.
Please copy and the paste this log in your next post.

A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

Now -

If you have this installed, just Update it and run a Full Scan

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Free (aka MBAM)
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform Full Scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.
Be sure to reboot the computer if required after you post the log.
The latest version of the program now scans archive files which were previously not scanned.
This can greatly increase the time required to complete a full scan.

Please post a snapshot with Speccy for more system details -

How can I fix this and what do you figure is a likely cause?

The IObit programs that you are running will never help this problem.

It sounds more like software, rather than hardware to me .......

First -

Download Security Check by Screen317 from HERE
* Save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe

Extra -

Please post a snapshot with Speccy for more system details -

Please carefully read all of the instructions, another MiniToolBox is not yet needed.

Now delete the 2 programs I asked you to remove as they are causing problems.

I do not know where you downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from, but it is corrupted.

You must run this mbam - clean.exe. and install a clean copy -

• Please download mbam-clean.exe from Here to your desktop and save it.
• Please close all open applications and temporarily shutdown your antivirus How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus to avoid any conflicts when running the tool.
• Locate the file mbam-clean.exe and double-click to run it and follow the onscreen prompts.
• It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so <= very important
• After the computer restarts, ensure that your antivirus is enabled.

Now -
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Free (aka MBAM)
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
Copy and Paste the log back here.
Be sure to reboot the computer if required after you post the log.
The latest version of the program now scans archive files which were previously not scanned.
This can increase the time required to complete a full scan.

Please remove these 2 programs as you are running 3 Antivirus programs now -

PC Tools AntiVirus Free
Advanced SystemCare 6 (Version: 6.4)

How Do I attach the txt file???

Please Copy / Paste as you have done with all other logs -

It will not copy - I just get 3 letter - forget what they are - repeated tries to copy no results  I WILL try again though as soon as I remove these..   But that's why I wanted to attach is because I can't copy it.

My PC Tools Anti Virus says the uninstall file is missing so I need to download a new copy of the program.

Advanced System Care has been deleted.

I got the MBAM program from your link here on B.C.   Either that or someone has an awfully clever way of redirecting my attention
