Hello,

I have not been here for about 2 years, so have forgotten exactly how to get started.  I know that once someone begins to help me, everything will go wonderfully.  I have received perfect solutions in the past and had almost forgotten this site.

I did purchase a new computer, but must wait for it to arrive at the Best Buy store nearby.  Meanwhile, I remembered this site, so maybe this computer can be saved after all.

It is an ACER running Windows 7 and I use Internet Explorer 11, which is continually sending messages that the program has stopped working and is opening in another window.   Soon it all crashes anyway.

Please let me know how to get in touch with one of the technicians here as I did before.

Thank you,

MitziNadine

I should have added a little more about the problems.

At one point, I could not open Norton Suite or run a scan.  Norton support connected remotely and got Norton running again.  Then I was able to do a scan, which showed only some cookies as threats.

I also had trouble running Windows update, it would just stall out or download but not complete the installations.  After several tries and several blue-screen crashes, the program eventually downloaded and installed the updates.

This is an Acer Aspire X1420G, which had been refurbished.  It runs Windows 7 - Home Premium - service pack 1 with a 64 bit operating system.  Thanks again,

MitziNadine

I have remembered more things which I forgot to mention earlier.  So much went wrong at once, it was making me dizzy.

Anyway,  there is another change that only began after the crashes and program problems.  Some programs would not open at all and then when the computer rebooted, they were available again.  At the same time, the computer has begun to regularly make an odd double-beeping sound when it recovers from a crash or even when I first turn it on.

It never made this type sound before - only the usual Windows start-up sound (which still sounds first) and then the odd sound occurs - sort of like a violin bowing sound.

Well, I think that is about all of the weird things it does now.

I actually feel this may not even be malware. Lets try to do this.

Download Windows Repair (All in One) from this site

Install the program then run it.

NOTE 1. In Windows Vista, 7 and 8 right click on the program, click "Run As Administrator".
NOTE 2. Disable your antivirus program before running Windows Repair.

Go to Step 2 and click on Check button next to 1. See If Check Disk Is Needed.
If the tool that the Check Disk is needed click on Do It button next to 2. Check Disk.
In that case make sure you restart computer.

p22004342.gif

Once the above is done go to Step 3 and allow it to run System File Check by clicking on Do It button:

p22004343.gif

Go to Step 4 and under "System Restore" click on Create button:

p22004346.gif

Go to Start Repairs tab and click Start button.

Leave all checkmarks as they're.
NOTE for Windows 8 users. Reset Registry Permissions is NOT checked by design.

Click on Start button.

Post Windows Repair log which is located in the following folder:
64-bit systems - C:\Program Files (x86)\Tweaking.com\Windows Repair (All in One)\Logs
32-bit systems - C:\Program Files\Tweaking.com\Windows Repair (All in One)\Logs

Hello Boopme,

Thank you for helping me!!

Before I received your response, by system had crashed totally and the only thing I could to to restart it was with the F8 key, where I managed to find a "Restore to Manufactured state". I clicked on that and then had to reinstall my wireless etc.

I also received a system message that my information had been placed in C:\Backup.

I have been able to install and run the Norton Suite and to update Windows, but it did crash several times more, so I left it alone until now and have been checking into the Bleeping Computer forum from my husband's lap top until I received your message today.

Since our local Best Buy didn't have the new computer that I ordered on hand, I cancelled that order anyway.

In the process of downloading the Windows Repair tool, I inadvertently downloaded "Reimage PC Repair program which installed an AVG scanner. I eventually removed that program, but failed to get the portion (AVG scanner) off before downloading and running the proper Windows Repair All-In-One tool.

After running the Windows Repair and restarting the computer, I opened Internet Explorer to send you the log, but that AVG scanner began running automatically and I couldn't stop it. I powered off the system and then removed the AVG scanner.

Now I have re-run the Windows Repair tool and will post that log here.

I really appreciate your help.

Hi again,

I just realized that I sent you the first log file. I am now sending the second try in case they may be different.

Also, I did receive one message from Internet Explorer it said,

{Internet Explorer has stopped working.

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.)

I clicked on "close program"

Here is the most recent log file.

Hi Boopme,

I had another blue-screen crash.  At start-up, I chose 'Restart windows normally"

When it restarted, a message from Windows said:

"Windows has recovered from an unexpected shut down.

A problem caused Windows to stop working correctly.  Windows will notify you if a solution is available."  "Close"

I then tried to run the Windows update.  The Windows Update main screen says:

Most recent check for updates - Never

Updates were installed - Never

You receive updates - for Windows and other products from Microsoft Update."

Then when I tried the search for updates an error code appeared - 8024000E.

I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter.

When completed it said:

"Trouble shooting was unable to automatically fix all of the issues found.  You can find more details below.

In a box:

   Problems found:

Windows update error 0x80070003(2014-02-23-T-12_31_24P)  - Not Fixed

Problems installing recent updates: - Not fixed

Problems installing recent updates: - Not fixed

Check for missing or corrupt files - Detected

Some security settings are missing or have been changed - fixed

Some registration is missing - Fixed

I restarted the computer and tried to run Windows update again, but received Error code: C80003FA

After re-running Windows Update Troubleshooter, It still has the same dialogue except for the Windows updater error which now reads:

)x80070003(2014-02-23-T-12_48_39P

Hi again,

Just after I sent that last long note, I found the note from you.

When I clicked on the link to reset IE to default, I received an error.

Microsoft Fix it 50195

The Windows installer Sevice could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.

I decided to wait until I hear from you before I do anything else.

Thank you so much,

MitziNadine

Hi Boopme,

It was very scary, but I did it.  I think it all worked right.

I will try to run Windows Update one more and see if it will work now.

Thank you for your excellent directions.  I'll be back and let you know if this worked.

Hi again,

It looked as though everything was going great. I ran Windows update and 153 important updates were found, plus 7 optional. I clicked "Update" at the bottom and it started installing 150 of them.

After a few minutes, the computer experienced another blue-screen crash.

I restarted Windows normally, and a notice appeared in the tray saying Windows Updates will be installed the next time the computer is started or at 3:00 AM.

I think I shouldn't try to do the Windows update again until I hear what you think.

Thank you lots

Hi,

As I shut down the computer, a message said not to power off the machine as 45 updates are being installed.  I watched as the number decreased to 28 installed, but it somehow has gotten hung up there.  The little turning circle is still going round, but no more updates are getting installed.

I will just let it go until it stops of itself for crashes - whichever comes first.  I'll find out in the morning which it was.

Yeah I think that is how you have to go.. It way to many updates.. Constant registry changes. Let it run, if you get a break in the installs reboot and let the updates start again.

Goodmorning, Boopme.

It restarted itself, but without updating the Windows.  I looked at the update window, and it still says it has never been updated.  Not sure whether to re-run that again or if there may be some way to limit the number of updates.  I wonder if the SP1 update from long ago got moved to the backup file when I had to restore it.

Just got a not that Norton found an error 3035,6 and is on Auto fix.  I will try and send this now as the machine has already crashed once since I tried to write you.

Great!

The Norton Auto Fix says it did fix that error. Just looked in the systems page and SP1 is listed. I notice the IE program is running better. The Compatibility sign in the address area is not there now.

I think it is better overall.

You can try going into Win Update and see if you can select the updates. Then select ony a few at a  time. Start with the Criticalupdates first.
