Hello Everyone, I am new to the forums and struggling with computer issues on my work laptop!

Found this place and thought I would check it out and see how I could help others and get help myself!

Thanks in advance for everything!

What exactly is happening?

If you think it's hardware related, you can start a thread in Internal Hardware.

If you think it's virus/software related, you can start a thread in Am I infected?

This is a work laptop that has not been running right since I got it.

1) I believe it is all virus related: AVG shows an IRP Hook and a Trojan Horse Downloader

2) Window's explorer is in a never ending loop of "Windows Explorere has stopped working" and "Windows Explorer is restarting"

3) Random pop-up windows keep coming up

I am going through the Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Malware Removal Tools and Requesting Help and will post all of the results in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware and Malware Removal thread!

I would recommend posting in Am I infected? first. There's a long waiting time for the Logs forum, plus responses are limited in the Logs forum to only certain privileged users.

Do NOT post those logs in Am I Infected.

If this is a work computer...any issues with it should be the responsibility of the IT person/dept...as opposed to seeking assistance on a forum.

Sorry, this laptop was an old work computer, now used for personal use.

The issue is the company is small and has no IT person/deptarment

:thumbup2: , thanks :).

Generally...unless you are sure that you are infected...it would be better to iniitate a topic in the Am I Infected forum.  The personnel there can overcome/assist with some types of malware and they can use tools to determine whether your system is infected...and whether you need to initiate a topic in the Malware Removal Logs forum.

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply posting the logs in the Infected? forum, mainly just starting a thread :)

Hello,

Now that you have posted a log here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/524200/infected-with-irp-hook-and-others/ you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a MRT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the MRT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the MRT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the MRT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

Please be patient. It may take several days to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses as the e-mail notification system is unreliable.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. Good luck with your log.
