Hi, using XP home edition, with 40gb HD, don't have that much on my PC to the point, when I check properties it says I have 5.74gb left, had problems when PC locked up, had to reinstall XP, looks like I am running two XP programs. Didn't want to lose photo's etc, why I didn't reformat, one recommendation was buy a bigger HD, shouldn't have to, no games on my PC at all, to take up so much space, when I download a movie etc it occasionally says too little drive space left, if anyone can help, would appreciate it.
Thanks

You might want to download (free) TreeSize, a small utility which shows you the HD space used by each folder to determine where the problem lies

If it is under the Windows sub-directory you have to be careful what you do in here you could toast your whole system.

There might be a little plus sign next to Windows, if there is click on the plus sign and write in the sub directories that are in here. We will see if there is anything we can do with them. Actually red should be OK for Windows but you wsaid there are a lot of zip files in there, what are soem of the names of the zip files and what directory are they under?

Weird, like I said, I seem to have two windows system folders, one has all the necessary files, and the other one only has a system folder which is empty? right under this is the Complete Folder, not actually a part of windows system files, have no idea where it came from, because when I go into program files to search for a Complete Folder it's not there? thanks again

Have you gone thru a repair of Windows or something that has maybe started an installation of a version of windows and has been exited out of?

There is something going on here that is a little bit out of the norm.

The zip file you sent me can you open it and read what is inside of it? If you can take a look for a read me file and see what that says and if possible let me know about that?

Have you called tech support for your computer manufacturer lately? I am asking this because if you did they might have taken you thru a procedure that might have left the ectra directory?

I would also like some system stats like processor, Ram, whether you have Win XP home or Pro and if you have Service pack 2 installed?

If you have a cd burner I would suggest backing up all of these zip files to the CD drive so you have a copy of them, and then (Write down this part on a paper) rename the directory they are in unless they are in the actual Windows directory, do not rename the Windows Directory you will not reboot. Also what is the size of the directory or all of the zip files?

After this has been accomplished I would like you to reboot the computer. If it reboots properly and you know it is working properly you can delete the directory the zip files are in, and reboot again.

Thanks Thor, will do all that. No Tech support, more than likely didn't load windows properly as system was screwy, have not tried a repair as of yet. Running XP home with SP2 , 512 Ram and 40gb HD. Pentium 4
There is approx 7,051mb in the "COMPLETE" folder, when I try to open any they go to an exe prompt, square blue and white window? hope you understand me. Have a burner, will do as you say, am in Oz and late if I don't get it done tonight now 11.30pm, will do so tomorrow, will post a response, so you will know, if I get the blue scream of death lol. Not into porn etc, and some of the zips are porn, never search for porn (christian), son lives here but he has is own pc which is networked to mine via broadband.

They are in a COMPLETE folder. It sounds like you have a networking program like Limewire or something like that. Do you have that or Kazaa? I would be very interested in what is in these zip files, just open the zip file but do not extract anything that has pictures or programs just take a look at any files like nfo or txt or read me or the like. If you find that these are not desirable files seeing as they are in a COMPLETE folder I would say they should be ok to delete along with the directory.

I also would like to make a suggestion to backup just your data to a CD-r or how ever many you have to use. No need to backup your programs, right now just to safe guard any disastor happening.

Also I would like you to run a Hijackthis as per the following:

Please read this guide before actually doing the procedure
And it has all of the links for downloads you need.

Go to the following to post your log file and it will be analyzed by a qualified tech it might take a bit because of the work load they have but it will tell us if there are any infections present.

This sounds like your problem.

I've run into a number of instances of it on the net, such as this one.

Hi Thor and Herk, it was Limewire also Bit torrent that did the deed. Have deleted the "COMPLET" folder, also the Virus was not detected hallelujah. My system is now 50% free whereas b4 I had about 15% left. Thanks for the support, the Tree program is what found the Limewire hidden folder, cheeky buggas doing that, should be a law against things like that.
Cheers guys

In case you come back, another questions along the same lines, when I open up, my computer, properties etc, and you have the tree of files going down the left side, I have a "My documents folder" and as I scroll down there is a "Warrens Documents" folder, they virtually contain the exact same files, cpl of different ones, obviously when saving files I in the past saved them to my "Warrens" folder, does this mean I have two of everything taking up space on my HDD or is it just a ghost image and not using memory or HD space, btw when I try to del out of either one, the opposite one also deletes the same file, confusing. If you can help thanks, if not, no worries, already helped me heaps.
Cheers

Hi I am glad that what we took you thru has helped. On this last one I suggest that you go thru the following:

Please read this guide before actually doing the procedure
And it has all of the links for downloads you need.
