My budget is: CAD $450 including shipping.
Primary uses: general web browser use; fora and text-only chat; YouTube audio (I tend to ignore video but am a stickler for good sound); playing hard drive music files ripped from CDs I own; playing World of Warcraft; streaming hockey games on NHL Gamecenter Live and baseball games on mlb.tv; creating and editing word processor files; learning Python and Perl; once a month, audio-only Skype calls overseas made by a relative through a separate user account.
Software: Either IE 11 or Google Chrome or both; Foobar 2000 music player; Rufus flash drive .iso burner; World of Warcraft game client; Skype with audio and text only; LibreOffice; possibly Thunderbird (although I normally use webmail); Python with IDLE; Strawberry Perl with Padre; very, very possibly gimp (if I decide to try learning how to draw on the computer).
Games: The only game I play and plan on playing is World of Warcraft.
Open Windows/Multitasking: I usually have either a YouTube music stream or Foobar running in the background while I do other things. Sometimes I'll have as many as six websites open, as well as a LibreOffice document. If I'm playing around with Python and Perl I'll have a browser window and IDLE/Padre open at the same time as some music is playing. I shut everything down only if I am installing new software, copying several gigabytes of data to a USB flash drive, or playing World of Warcraft.
Pictures/Music: I have very few still images in my backup images library and a grand total of 89 .flacs ripped from my CDs, totalling 2.31 gigabytes.
Thanks for all input
