How about a diesel generator. (just kidding) The main consideration is power draw 1st, then built in surge protection quality. With something that I'd consider mission critical, like a surveillance setup, high end would be the only way to go. With regular standby UPS's for connection to individual PC's, something in this line would work. They're pretty much a no brainer to hook up and manuals are provided.
I would say "average" is around 100-120 running all the time. It's really a "ballpark" though depending on how much hardware you're using. The only accurate way to find out is to use a tester like this one.
