I've some how managed to caught a Trojan or perhaps the new term is RANSOMWARE.

I receive a box on my system microsoft security essentials has determined that

I have several trojans and other exposures on my system. I receive this about

twice a day. I don't have essentials running on my windows 8 system. They want

me to select OK so they can repair the problems.

I have not selected anything to determine the cost of repair if any.

I've tried several methods to resolve this. ex; malwarebytes, anti virus, bit defender,

kaspersky virus removal tool, norman malware cleaner, microsoft safety scanner,

just to name a few.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello rmb1813a

  • Welcome to Bleeping Computer.
  • My name is fireman4it and I will be helping you with your Malware problem.

Please take note of some guidelines for this fix:
  • Refrain from making any changes to your computer including installing/uninstall programs, deleting files, modifying the registry, and running scanners or tools.

  • If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing.

  • Even if things appear to be better, it might not mean we are finished. Please continue to follow my instructions and reply back until I give you the "all clean".
  • In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Follow This Topic.I suggest you click it and select Immediate E-Mail notification and click on Follow This Topic. This way you will be advised when we respond to your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine.

  • Finally, please reply using the Post  button in the lower right hand corner of your screen. Do not start a new topic. The logs that you post should be pasted directly into the reply, unless they do not fit into the post.
  •   I will be analyzing your log. I will get back to you with instructions.

NOTE:

If you have the most recent Service pack to Windows8 which would be 8.1 MSSE aka Windows Defender is Automatically included and installed in that Service pack.  We will check for any malware as I suspect MSSE is installed and picking something up. Next time it says it finds something could you please note the file it is saying is infected.

1.

Download AdwCleaner

  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
***Note: Windows Vista and Windows 7 users:
Right click in the adwCleaner.exe and select
    "Run as administrator"
  • Click the Scan button.

  • Once the scan has finished please click the Clean button to clean your machine.
  • A logfile will automatically open after the scan has finished.
  • Please post the content of that logfile in your next reply.
  • Or you can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt.

2.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Please copy and paste log back here.
  • The first time the tool is run it generates another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST.exe/FRST64.exe). Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.

Fireman41t,

I'm currently running windows 8.0 not 8.1. I have not been able to start windows defender.  I keep

getting a message that some other Apps are running. I'm using Avast  and I believe that is causing the

problem.  I have been running Malwarebytes.

Question: Can you recommend a  good safe site with no other attachments (ex; safe download program, toolbars, etc)  to download ADwCleaner and Farber recovery  from. I don't trust Cnet and  I like ninite  but they don't have these programs.

I can't seem to find the instructions you noted for replying, posting and email to this post.

Just for info I have not had a reoccurrence of this problem over the past week. The last thing I did was run Malewarebits and delete

file "pup.options.open. candy"
