In my downtime I play HOG games (when no time for full on gaming session) Anyway I have a problem which is when playing after a few minutes sometimes less I get a black or coloured screen everything is still working sound game running computer running, just graphics so I tried playing some proper games Bioshock infinite, farcry 3, RIPD etc. and had no problems with those.
So I run performance test 8.0 everything ok except when it runs 3D graphics directcompute which seems to cause the same thing happening.
I have tried all I can think of to correct this, has anyone come across a similar thing happening or what I can do about it please.

How are these HOG games played? Through a browser? Installed? I might suggest updating java, flash player, and your video card drivers if you have not already done so.

Sorry yes they are downloaded and installed, basically just a small game that doesn't use many resources, supposedly.

Those games are usually java or flash based. Start by updating your video card drivers, and then update java and flash. I believe this should resolve the issue. If it does not let me know and we can continue.

Done the graphics drivers, but will give updating java and flash a go and report back.

Please provide the names of the games, this will help to get an idea of how they do video processing.

I have 2 things for you to try, first go update shockwave player: http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/

Then from your start menu in the "search programs and files" type dxdiag and hit enter, I am curious what directx version of directx you are on. It will likely say DirectX 11 if you allow windows updates.

Did you have any luck after updating shockwave? Dxdiag seems ok, that is the same version I have. I looked into those games and per the technical solving data they had, it said to uninstall the game and re-install for black screens or freezes, of course they did recommend first updating video driver, shockwave, flash. Since we have already done these, it might be worth uninstalling and reinstalling the games that do not function correctly, BACKUP data first...

This is from big fish's Shadow Shelter forum website: http://bigfishgames.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/158 You can check out this link <---- for more things to try. Because other games work fine it may be a problem with compatibility related to the game and your hardware.

To help with game freezing and slowness, run the game in XP compatibility mode and/or disable the Aero appearance setting. First, make sure you have the ability to view hidden files:

Show hidden files
  1. Open the Start (Windows) menu in the bottom left corner of your screen.
  2. Select Computer then Local Disk (C:) and then Program Files. (If you have a 64 bit system, open the Program Files (x86) folder instead.)
  3. Find and open the folder for your game.
  4. Near the top of the folder, click Organize and then select Folder and Search Options from the menu.
  5. Click the View tab.
  6. Select Show hidden files and folders.
  7. Click Apply then OK.

16601.jpg

Now the application file for your game should be visible and you can proceed with the following steps.

16603.jpg

Run game in XP compatibility mode
  1. From the game folder, right-click your mouse on the application file (example in above picture) and select Properties.
  2. Select the Compatibility tab at the top.
  3. Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or 3).
  4. Check the boxes to Disable visual themes and Disable desktop composition.
  5. Check Run this program as an administrator.
  6. Click Apply then OK.

16604.jpg

  1. Delete the shortcut icon for your game, which is usually found on the desktop.
  2. Afterward, open the Game Manager and then click the Play button to start your game.

Once a game is selected to run in XP compatibility mode, it can no longer be opened from the shortcut game icon which is usually located on the desktop. Instead, make sure to start your game by first opening the Game Manager, then clicking the Play button next to the game title.

Also just to verify that direct x is completely up to date you might try: http://www.softsea.com/download/DirectX-End-User-Runtime-Web-Installer.html
