My computers video driver keeps crashing during heavy gaming and I can't figure out why.

Here is the windows error code:

BCCode : ea     BCP1 : 88E26020     BCP2 : 8AC96F10     BCP3 : 8ADBF038
BCP4 : 00000001     OSVer : 5_1_2600     SP : 3_0     Product : 768_1

Here are my system specifications:

Pentium 4 651 3.4ghz Cedar Mill

Mushkin Silverline 4gb DDR2 667mhz

AMD HD 6450 1GB GDDR3 video card - Catalyst Control Center 13.9

Seagate Barracuda 160gb hdd

Windows XP Service Pack 3

I thought it was overheating but the gpu temp never goes above 60 degrees celcius.

I also have the error .dmp file if you need it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it always in the same game? Or can you replicate this in another (similar) game? Have you upgraded to the latest driver?

Also adding to the above, are the games you're playing not compatible with your spec?

It's very hard to imagine all the crazy things that things really are like.

Electrons act like waves.. no they don't exactly, they act like particles.. no they don't exactly.

Words and ideas can change the world.

Happens in 3 different games, Path of Exile, Left 4 Dead 2, and Warframe. Sometimes the whole system freezes and I have to press the power button, other times the video driver just crashes. Funny thing is the games run great while they're working and I can usually play them quite a while. I just tried using  benchmark software to stress test the system and set it on high and it didn't crash which I thought was kind of odd. Only happens while gaming.

Catalyst 13.9 is the latest driver I believe for the 6450.

I also tried putting in a new 550watt power supply and it didn't change anything.

Please follow the instructions for posting the link to your Speccy snapshot.

My guess...would be that one of your Visual packages is damaged, I would download/reinstall each of 2005 and 2008 packages and see if that brings any relief.

No AV installed...Windows installation dates to 24 Dec 2013.  Lack of AV increases vulnerability to malware.  No evidence of critical updates installed increases system vulnerability to malware.

Hi, I'm aware of that, but these crashes have been happening since I first installed windows. I unistalled visual 2005 and 2008 but I'm still getting the crashes. I only use this computer for gaming, which is why theres no AV. Should I reinstall visual 2010 and 2012 also?

Well, it would not necessarily hurt anything to do that.

I see nothing that I can say conclusively points in a given direction...but I don't mind guessing, as long as you take them as such.

Ok, well I appreciate your attempt to help. I just noticed there was a newer catalyst 13.12 released beginning of this year,

so I removed old driver and installed the new one. Still same problems. Either AMD drivers plain suck or my video card is faulty I suppose even though its brand new. Just frustrating because I've never come across a problem I couldn't fix.

All of the crashes also say THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER, if thats of any significance.

Well...BSOD error messages are seldom specifically capable of pointing to a specific problem, the messages are general known errors that are likely to develop.

The particular phrasing cited...doesn't tell us anything we don't already know...to wit, there's a problem with the graphics :).  See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293078 .

We still have no clue why...which is what is desired, IMO.

Try changing your graphics settings in the games to turn off certain special effects (bloom, particles, AA.. .I dunno, anything it lets you turn off) and then see if the crashes stop (then you could know it was some special graphical feature that causes the crash. something to try anyway.  Also, if you still have your old card, you could try using it again and see if it still crashes (to rule out the new card being the problem??

Also if you use any overlay programs like teamspeak overlay, xfire, etc, you could try running the games with those programs turned off.

You can also try the AMD/ATI uninstaller program that is supposed to completely remove all the ATI stuff from your pc, before installing the new driver.

I tried fiddling with the in-game graphics settings many times, didn't seem to change anything. I used the AMD uninstaller earlier today before I installed the new CCC 13.12 driver. The only thing running in the backround is STEAM. First i'll try using my integrated intel graphics, if all else fails I'll just buy another video card, this 6450 was only $40 anyway.
