please help with above problem windows xp /ibm vaio. cannot access anything with this msg window up. have tried "last known" and no help

Can you boot via Safe Mode by hitting F8 just after the POST Screen?

yes and no. when I do safe mode, screen changes to black with "safe mode" @ the 4 corners but center of screen is black w/no data.

can you bring up taskmanager and start a new task called explorer.exe?

Do you have access to a Windows XP Installation CD?

if I can, I don't know how Madman. neophyte here. No on the cd. I did try cntrl shift esc when in safe mode but nothing, when in safemode it reverts back to msgina window. can f8 to safe mode prompt etc

You may need to get a Windows XP CD, so ask your friends.

Nope as I think that is for IBM Wireless networks.

CAN get to "last known good config" but doesn't help, thought I could put a date in like system restore option
