In windows 8, my brother tried to update to 8.1 but now computer seems it has 8.1 pro. But it can not load. Automatic repair, refresh, system restore, all of them gave errors. I dont want to reset.

I tried those commands from windows site

bootrec /fixmbr and other bootrec

and in config,

ren system syste.001 this worked but

ren software software.001

this gave errorprocess in use, can not be accessed.

How can i rescue? I dont have any rescue disc or etc.

Desktop computer, 32 bit probably.

Is the Windows 8.1 disc 64 bit version?  Either bad disc, or wrong version for what you have, and what he burnt to the disc.  I have run into where I have had to turn off Secure boot in the UEFI bios.  It helps to know what the manufacturer & model# of your computer that you have.

You have to make sure that you download the correct version for your machine.  Also since most of those from University's are Volume licensing, that means that you cannot just install it on your machine as an upgrade.  The Volume license copy will install as if you are doing any other license, but it will change the OEM license that came with your computer to the Volume license.  Also those Volume license's are Pro versions.

As for getting 8.1, it comes through the store, not Windows or Microsoft update.  The only thing that comes through the Windows/Microsoft Update, is a "key", to allow you to download the 8.1 update from the store.

Also there are different "MAK" keys for 8 & 8.1, is why you cannot always find the upgrade in the store.  See this for further information.  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/why-can-t-find-update-store  Also this explains about the difference with why some people are having issues http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/8db5ea3b-1a00-44af-b531-8925ef6f38c1/mak-volume-license-upgrade-from-windows-8-to-81?forum=w8itproinstall
