my avg detected this I-WORM\VB.GV on start-up. i let avg heal this worm but it keeps popping up on other folders when avg heals it or moves it to the vault. i did a full scan and it detected over 140 entries of this worm in different folders, then after the scan i deleted it all from the vault and restarted the pc, still there it was again. i restarted the pc in safe mode and did the scan, it detected it again but not in such huge numbers a few only, so deleted it again from the vault and restarted the pc. it ran fine for 30 mins the the avg resident detected it again.

i used, avast, spybot, ad aware, ewido, but still no effect. what should i do?

i ran hijack this and here it's results

Hello,

The current formatting of your log makes it difficult to read, so in notepad:
On top, click Format >uncheck Word Wrap

Any reason why your windows isn't up to date? You don't have even ServicePack1 installed!
Remember that your system is extremely vulnerable without the necessary security patches/updates, so malware can get installed automatically while surfing without any problems.
Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...p1/network.mspx and update to Service Pack 1. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
When your system is clean afterwards, then update to SP2, because updating to SP2 CAN cause problems as long as you are infected.

Once updated to SP1,

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O3 - Toolbar: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - C:\PROGRA~1\YAHOO!\COMPAN~1\INSTALLS\cpn\ycomp5_6_2_0.dll (file missing)
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{AE3E5F86-4688-4AB2-A9A5-CBE04E864301}: NameServer = 85.255.113.150,85.255.112.106
O21 - SSODL: SystemCheck2 - {54645654-2225-4455-44A1-9F4543D34546} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbsys2.dll (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional file from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

Hi,

No, images are disabled here... Was AVG able to clean these files found?
Your hijackthislog looks clean though, but not sure if the fix properly worked since you have a chinese OS.
Can you perform next online scan please?

* Perform an onlinescan with panda: (please use this scanner instead of any other scanner!)
Panda Online
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report

hi sir,

as i've said earlier, i ran a scan of avg at it detected over 30 entries, i let avg delete or heal those entries and it deleted them all. so i let it stand it that way and after overnight i scanned again a few minutes ago avg did not detect anymore of that i-worm/vb.gv. i scanned again using my other anti virus avast, spybot, etc. all detected nothing. but one thing happened, my avg update got busted it displays a message that something is not working or faulty installation that it cannot update itself online, and that i have to reinstall the avg program.

apparently my system is clean now except for the avg update problem, which i will try to fix later. and i'm still looking for a chinese sp1 and sp2 so i can update my windows xp.

thank you sir for your help. god bless.

Hello,

Reinstalling your AVG should fix your problem.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

* Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.
* Don't click on links inside popups.
* Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of these so called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. Because a lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

If you are having XP SP2, read here how to configure Security Features for Internet Explorer:
