Dear Sirs,

The following "Updates" were automatically downloaded several days ago:-

KB2604121  Microsoft .NET Framework 4  Important  38.5MB
KB2468871  Microsoft .NET Framework 4  Important  27.5MB

I have tried to instal them, as usual, umpteen times but keep getting "Failed" with Failure

Code 66A.

Other, subsequent "Updates" have, apparently, installed since.

Another oddity is that when I close the computer down I'm given the opportunity to instal

these two "Updates". I accept and watch the process proceed and the computer shut

down. Next time I boot up computer the position is unaltered ie: updates NOT installed !

This has happened time after time. Back to square one !

Will some kind soul tell me, in very simple language, what is happening here (or not!), what I

can do to solve this annoying problem, and how I can complete the installation operation.

Many Thanks,

Graham

Hi Graham,

Had a similar problem: I found this answer from Microsoft. I did it and it worked!!

You may follow the steps below and check if it helps you fix the update installation issue.

A. Click on Start and click on Control panel.

B. Go to Program and Features.

C. Scroll down to Microsoft.Net Framework 4 Client Profile, right click it.

D. It will give you a choice of Uninstall/Change, click it.

E. Then, it will give a choice to Repair it, pick Repair it. It will take about 4-10 minutes to repair (with my PC) your experience may vary.

F. When completed, go to your update center, and update it again.

Hope this helps you as well. If not post back.

Good Luck

Dear sickntired,

We meet again !!

Have already tried your solution. Tried again. No good !

In "Programs and Features" I have two entries---

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1

Repaired both of 'em !!

Not a blind bit of help I'm afraid.

You will notice that the words " Client Profile" do NOT appear in my "entries". ?Relevance?

So---- I'm still stuck with these two updates that steadfastly refuse to instal. Actually when you watch the process the first update apparently instals OK and I'm told that the second update is installing. I hold my breath but at the death I get the message that neither have been installed. Infuriating.

Your comments would be appreciated.

Regards,

Graham

Hi Graham

Sorry it didn't work for you. As for "Client Profile", it does not show up in my Programs and Features as well.

Since you tried the suggested fix already, can you expand on what other steps you have tried? Which Update appears to install?

Have you done a manual install? http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3556

Have you tried this Microsoft Fix?
