Running windows 7 - my computer has been rock solid for about a year or so. Only very recently has it had stability problems.

Latest updates and changes:

1, update with Adobe Flash. My flash videos stopped working, so I disabled and re-enabled. worked for awhile and then IE became unstable upon loading. System would hang. CTL+ALT+DEL won't get me out of the hang.

I noticed that IE 11 was running far, far more memory than it should a few days ago, and was noticing issues with load times. Had intended to run scans, but have been busy. Get back, found the system had hanged again.

Ran CCCleaner - insta-hang, won't open. Ran in safe mode, same thing. Ran Malware bytes in safe mode, but it hangs at the same place every scan (doesn't pick anything up, but 27 minutes it will hang at the files in content.IE5. Avira Antivirus stalled and hanged scanning the same files.

I attempted to delete temporary internet files manually through windows explorer, and managed to clean them, although the IE 11 tool would hang and crash.

This morning, it successfully booted up, I got another hang in IE 11. I have deleted IE 11 using the remove update and IE 10 has been stable. I think it might just be a corrupted profile, but I am uncertain, and want to check here to see if there might be malware. The hang I got today in IE 11 is when I attempted to have the browser save passwords to my profile.

Suggestions? I'm stumped here. System seems otherwise stable, and runs fine on Chrome.

I'm stumped here. System seems otherwise stable, and runs fine on Chrome.

Hello -

If your system is now "stable", then are you able to run a scan with your copy of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware ?

If not please try to run these programs.

Please try to run them in the order they are posted.

Download Screen317 Security Check and save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt
* Please post the contents of that document.
Note:: If a security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so.

Next -

Please download MiniToolBox to your desktop to run it.
Checkmark following boxes:

* List content of Hosts
* Flush DNS
* Report IE Proxy Settings
* Reset IE Proxy Settings
* Report FF Proxy Settings
* Reset FF Proxy Settings
* List last 10 Event Viewer log
* List Installed Programs
* List Devices (do NOT change any settings here)
* List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.
Click Go and Copy / Paste the result. (result.txt)

Next -

lease post a snapshot with Speccy for more system details -
How to Publish a snapshot with Speccy <<-- Full Directions (only post the link)

Now try to run a few removal programs.

Programs should be run by Right clicking, and selecting "Run as administrator"

First:

Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.
rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/
iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/

* Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
* If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
* A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
* If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
* Do not reboot until instructed.
* If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

NOTE - If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode.
When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.
Post it in your next reply.
NOTE. RKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.

Next -

Please download Junkware Removal Tool by thisisu and save it to your Desktop.
* Close all open programs and shut down any protection/security software now to avoid potential conflicts.

* How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus
* Double-click on JRT.exe to run the tool.
* Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
* The tool will open and start scanning your system.
* Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
* On completion, a log file named JRT.txt will automatically open and be saved to your Desktop.
* Copy and paste the contents of JRT.txt in your next reply.
These tools will search for and remove many potentially unwanted programs (PUPs), adware, toolbars, browser hijackers, extensions, add-ons, browser helper objects (BHOs) and other junkware to include many related registry entires (values, keys)

Plus -

* Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
* Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
* Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
* Click on the Scan button (only once)
* AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
* After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
* Click on the Clean button (only once)
* Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
* Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
* After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
* Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
* A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

Now try your Malwarebytes program again, and see if it will run.

Update it if you can, and only start with a Quick Scan.

Post any problems, or if successful, post log back here.

Finally -

Clear Cache/Temp Files
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
• Please double-click TFC.exe to run it.
• For Vista, Win 7 / 8 right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
• It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
• Click the Start button to begin the process.
• Once it's finished it may reboot your machine.
• If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Tell me if any or all programs will or will not run, and Copy and Paste all / any logs back.

Thank You -

Not yet, wanted to post up my problems while things were stable before testing out Malware bytes again. Should these all be run in safe mode?

I have been successful in updating malware bytes and I ran a full scan,  not a quick one. Should I start with the quick scan in safe mode?

Hi -

Although the program is not designed for Safe Mode (any Scan), you will get a report if it runs.

If there are severe problem infections, it can make a partial cure to the problem.

You can try any (most) of the other programs, as they only Read and do not attempt to make changes.

Thank You -

In MiniToolBox did you alter the setting for this section ?
> List Devices (do NOT change any settings here) <

It should only list Problem Devices -

The other thing that I notice is that Malwarebytes is not listed under Antimalware Utilities ??

Have you removed / uninstalled the program ?

How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus while you install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Free (aka MBAM): to your desktop.
- Do not accept the Free Trial Version at this time -
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

Be sure to restart the computer if requested.
The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

Thanks -

Oh, sorry. :( I wasn't sure whether you meant it should be all of them or the problem ones. :( Sorry.

No, I've not uninstalled Malware Bytes. I sure can reinstall it though.

No change. Malware bytes is stalling in the same place. C:/Users/UserName/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5 Same as every time it's been run. Malware bytes also refuses to close.

No major errors in Speccy, unless you want to copy a few for me ???

https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=122284#entry644441
Please see above for Full, correct directions on Uninstall of Malwarebytes program, then follow my Reinstall -

Reset the Hosts file back to the default automatically, click the Fix It link, click Run in the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard. => http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9668866

Thanks -

You have downloaded MBAM to a Temp File area, not to desktop !

Please read How do I delete the files in Content.IE5 folder?

Read from How do I delete the files in Content.IE5 folder?  down and do not install anything from the linked page.

Please ask if not sure -

That speccy file is from before. I redownloaded and reinstalled MalwareBytes from the desktop, followed the instructions. MalwareBytes is now in the folder. Let me rerun the file for the major problems for you. Again, apologies.

Thank you noknojon. I've never ran into this sort of thing before. I'll try that link and see if I have any success. I tried to open the file directly from windows explorer and I noticed two numbers for the permissions that immediately vanished as soon as I clicked on permissions. It wouldn't let me delete anything and then it would hang.
