Hello,

I have a synology diskmanager linux server that I access with my local computers on my home network. My dell optiplex 960 desktop runs windows xp pro, and I was experiencing a 10-15 second stall when I click on the diskstation in my network places, under workgroup. I went through with Dell and they suggested a repartitioning, reformatting and reinstallation of windows xp, which I've done. Unfortunately this did not change the response time. When I called back the support person (bear in mind this is their 'gold' service contract) said it was outside of the scope of services...

So I was hoping that someone could help. Another problem was one of my shared folders on the diskstation could not be viewed from the xp computer. So I created a new folder and copied over these files and it's fine now.

I run Malware (full version), MS Security essentials and firewall.

Thanks,

James

Thanks, I have better performance out of windows 7, and androids as well. XP is just a problem and I need it for programs I use and have procrastinated perhaps to long. I've tried what you recommend and it doesn't really seem to do much. Interestingly, I have done two things that have helped but are really work arounds...1st, I've created a new user on the xp system and that helps..for a while and 2nd, I've disconnected and remapped drives.  Another interesting thing that I've noticed if I am in a shared folder and not all the folders are showing up, I single click a folder and pres <F5> and it refreshes and brings up the rest of them. lastly, I also note that when it takes a long time to load the initial user/shared folder that xp will give an error that I do not have permission, which if I just wait and click again it opens...must be timing out and giving me a standard error.

Thanks again

James
