Hello,

My computers almost back to normal thanks to the help of members here in another thread.

Now the only problem I know about is when I try and start my computer in SAFE MODE it gets stuck while scanning my window files.

I did a scan where it did find a corrupt file but it couldn't do anything about it.

My laptop is a HP dv7-2170us running Window Vista 64 home.

Did you run sfc /scannow?

If you did open the command prompt and type in cmd.

Type cmd in the search box.

When the command prompt opens copy and paste the following, then press Enter.

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

Copy and then paste the log in your next post.

Did you run sfc /scannow?

I THINK that's where I got the info that there IS a corrupt file but it couldn't fix it.

Edit~I'm running it again.

OK...

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.

Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log."

I don't know how to access these details.

Open an Elevated Command Prompt.  Click on the Start orb and Type cmd in the Search programs and files box.

cmd will appear in the pane above the search box, right click on it and choose Run as administrator.

This will open the Elevated Command Prompt, this will look similar to the image below.

commandprompt_zps212bc71a.png

Copy and then paste the following in the Elevated Command Prompt:    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

This will place an icon on your desktop titled sfcdetails, click on this to open it, copy and then paste this in your next post.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Please run the sfc /scannow two more times.

I really don't like downloading information like this.  I have no way of knowing what I'm downloading.

The pertinent information is at the bottom of the log.

There are two files which could not be repaired, their file paths are:

pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64

pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_IA32_ON_WIN64

You will need to copy these from either a installation disc or a computer with the same operating system and version.

You will need to take ownership of these files.

You will need to grant administrators full access to the files.

You will need to replace the corrupted system files.

Fortunately Microsoft Support has detailed instructions for this.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Do you know anyone who can loan you their installation disc?

You can download a ISO image here.  You will have to burn it to a disc, you can use the following instructions to do this.

Insert blank CD or DVD into your CD/DVD drive.

Open ImgBurn, and click on Write image file to disc.

ImgBurn1_zps715cb1c2.png

Click on the Browse for a file icon:

ImgBurn2_zpsaea72ba9.png

Locate the ISO file you want to burn, and click on the Open button.

Click on the blue arrow to start burning the bootable CD.
