My computer has been crashing pretty regularly lately. Managed to fix it the first time, but its been doing it again, and I'm lost on what to do. Minidump link for the last couple (since the fix) is below, please just tell me anything else you need and it's yours, thanks in advance.

You could try updating drivers related to ethernet, wireless, etc.

I would also recommend running memtest to rule out ram: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso, you will need to download it and burn it to a disc or if you have a flash drive (save everything off of it first) and then use the Download - Auto-installer for USB Key (Win 9x/2k/xp/7) to install it to the flash drive. Then boot to the dvd or flash drive and let the memory test complete 3 passes. It may take a few hours.

If I am helping you with a problem and I have not responded within 48 hours please send me a PM.

Alright, tried a virus scan, computer reboots every time I try it, same message as the last one from that minidump ever time, I doubt we'd get any new information there. Driver updates, did that for the last set of crashes as far as I'm aware, memtest too. Taking a bad ram stick out fixed that problem (basically tried the whole try each stick separately in both slots thing). I'll probably give memtest another try later, just to be sure. Any other suggestions?

Hi

Please try the below steps.

:step1: Update LAN driver.

First download and save Win7 and WinServer 2008 R2 Auto Installation Program from the below link.

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Then unplug Ethernet connection and uninstall Realtek LAN from Device Manager with Delete Driver option selected.

Like the below example ;

kb27259-004_en_v3.png

Reboot the machine and then install the latest driver downloaded earlier.

:step2: Uninstall Avast antivirus.

Crash dumps shows possible involvement of Avast firewall drivers in the crashes. Please uninstall it completely from the system at least as a test. Make sure not to install any AV program until the issue is solved.

If the BSOD continues, please upload the latest crash dumps with next reply.

All anti virus uninstalled, drivers updated (I had accidentally forgot and installed Microsoft Security Essentials, but then uninstalled it and a crash occurred after that. I think only the middle of the three files I uploaded happened with it installed).

Attached is a zip of the minidump files from after taking BC Advisor's advice (wouldn't let me upload them individually).

Alright, while I'm waiting for an update on what to do, this question is occurring to me - how hard is Linux to work with? I'd imagine there's a bit of a learning curve, but since I set up the pc this thread is about primarily as a media center, then, assuming that the problems with this computer are software based, at this point I may just switch over if it'll solve my problems, assuming I can find variants of all the software I need, of course (hell, I might be able to offload some of what I need to my laptop).

Hi

Linux is a good choice especially as a media center OS. You should take a look at the below article.

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-great-linux-media-cente-distributions-transform-tv/

Regarding your BSOD issue, can you identify a pattern ?. What softwares are usually running when the crashes occurs ?.

Also with the next reply, please include a Minitoolbox result.

"Minitoolbox" can list all the installed programs as well as event log errors in your system. Download "Minitoolbox" from the below link.

Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.

List last 10 Event viewer errors
List installed program
List users, partition and memory size
List Minidumps

Now click "Go" and post the output displayed in next reply.
