So, I have two desktops and one has a wifi adapter. I connected them with ethernet cable and tried to share the connection to another one, but I can't seem to set it up. A few weeks ago, I had the wifi adapter on the other computer and sharing was successful, I have no idea why it won't work vice versa...

You really need to get a router, and not share the connection between the two.  Routers are now under $20 for a base starter unit.

Make sure that you can ping each computer from the other.  Enable ICS
