Novatech desktop PC. AMD 6800 processor.

I was getting several BSODs but have resolved that with System Restore. Device Manager indicated that the PCI device and SMBUS controller had no driver installed so I downloaded drivers from the AMD website. However, the SMBUS is still showing the yellow alert and driver won't install due to an error with the AMD Catalyst installer. So, no more BSOD but the screen freezes and distorts with horixontal lines, most often when changing screens via the mouse but can happen when running a download. A virus scan was clear and I'm using SpywareBlaster. Novatech tech help suggest that its a problem with the PC's memory.

Try to update the video card driver, this should update catalyst control center as well.

You can run a memtest with http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

Often it is a stick of ram that causes problems exactly like yours.

If I am helping you with a problem and I have not responded within 48 hours please send me a PM.
