My  friend is running Windows 8 and has the rvzr-akamaihd.net virus. I recommended she download DDS from Bleeping Computers first, register on Bleeping Computers, and then register or ask me some additional steps that do not include running HijackThis or Combofix even though I have used these in the past and am comfortable with both. She saved it to her desktop but it will not run even in compatibility mode for Windows 7. The virus will insert hidden javascript characters even in notepad so changing the name may not help.

Any other suggestions?

Your friend is most likely using Windows 8.1. DDS and ComboFix by sUBs are not compatible with Windows 8.1 yet so you cannot get them to run.

As for rvzr-a.akamaihd.net...it is not a virus. Please read and follow the instructions in this topic.
