Curious how they get away with Free!  Don't know how these sites can offer free editions of windows, I like others either purchased or received it preloaded.  Can people get away with using these free downloads?  Just does not seem right!

Ello OldPhil!

To answer your question sometimes websites give away free copies in contests and they legally purchase the copy of the OS themselves, however other websites (mainly malicious ones) Will give you a pirated version of Windows which is illegal and could get you in trouble. If you want to be sure that you are supporting the developer I'd recommend buying from a trusted seller or buying directly from the developer.

Using any pirated software is not only considered illegal activity but it is a serious security risk which can turn a computer into a virus honeypot or zombie.
