Hello, just one annoying little problem here.

I'm running Windows XP Home (SP1) and recently the computer I'm using became officially "mine", so now I can get rid of other peoples' profiles on here.

All the accounts I'm trying to delete are administrator accounts, and the account I am trying to delete them from is also an administrator account.

I deleted my Dad's profile first, no problem (his was the "owner" account), but now the User Account window locks up (sits and does nothing until I close it and then it says not responding) when I try to delete any other profile. What is the problem here, and how can I delete these accounts?

Thanks for any help you can offer, I couldn't find anyone else who has had this kind of issue before.

Ok First thing - The owner account that you deleted if it was the Adminisrators account you might have a problem.

The best thing is this article from Microsoft KBase and please print it out so you have a reference.

How To Create and Configure User Accounts in Windows XP

You will have to have the password for the administrative account (original) on the computer to do any of this.

Good luck.

Well you see that's the thing, ALL accounts on this computer are administrator's accounts, and none of them is passworded anyhow. I did delete the owner account but it was from my own (also administrator account). I just can't seem to delete the other two. I'm using the same menu as that link you gave me points to.

They may all be admin accounts, but only one is/was the default admin account set up when XP was installed on the computer, and I don't think that account can be deleted.

"An account with the name "Administrator" is created during installation. This Administrator account, with computer administrator privileges, uses the administrator password you entered during setup."

Why you should not run your computer as an administrator

Running Windows 2000 or Windows XP as an administrator makes the system vulnerable to Trojan horses and other security risks. The simple act of visiting an Internet site can be extremely damaging to the system. An unfamiliar Internet site may have Trojan horse code that can be downloaded to the system and executed. If you are logged on with administrator privileges, a Trojan horse could do things like reformat your hard drive, delete all your files, create a new user account with administrative access, and so on.

Generally, you must have (or take) ownership (as an administrator) in order to work on the other accounts.

In the folder/file's Properties, go to the Security tab, and then click on the Advanced button. This will open another window where you can take ownership.

Here's some links about access-denied errors and taking ownership of files/folders:

Good luck with this, it can be very frustrating!

Unfortunately I think that default admin account CAN be deleted. I went into control panel --> user profiles and deleted the account called "owner" from my account ("Astaroth"). Just can't delete the others because the whole window locks up when I try it. There's no error message or access denied message, the whole window just ceases to respond.
