I was as surprised as anyone to discover this week that my XP system was going to get at least one more update from Microsoft, in order to fix the previously unknown to me "SVCHOST" problem.

But guess what -- my XP performance since then seems to have gone significantly downhill. In particular, I am no longer able to get smooth Youtube playbacks -- and the problem is not Internet throughput, i.e., the download bar is far in advance of the playback bar.  So there is some process which is intermittently jumping in and grabbing big chunks of CPU time and/or RAM.

I've just finished checking my system for viruses with the latest versions of RKILL, TDSKiller, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and they have found nothing.

Can you help?

Following is my "Mini Tool Box" log showing 1) Event Viewer Errors, 2) Installed Programs, 3) Users, Partitions and Memory Size, and 4) Restore Points.  (I've added the last because I had hoped to restore XP to a previous version -- but I was suprised to discover that the SVCHOST "fix" apparently wiped out all previous restore points.

Very interesting, Louis!

So just for grins, I rebooted in Safe Mode, logged in as the Administrator, and this is the new result from MiniToolBox:

You have insufficient free space for Windows to operate as it should..  The minimum free space for any Windows partition which is not huge...is 15% or so of stated partition space.

As far as your RAM goes...every time that you open a browser window...more RAM is used.  Programs like Works and iTunes and your browsers...well, 1GB of RAM can only go so far...and some of that is used by onboard videl and other things.

Louis, just by way of closing the loop, it turns out that this is a Chrome problem, and not an XP problem!  You can follow along here:

All videos using flash player keep stuttering every 20 secs

From what I found out the problem was introduced with the chrome version 32 update, some users in other topics downgraded to previous stable versions of chrome and the stutters went away. The only other solution for the time being is to switch to another browser.
