start menu-->right click on my computer-->properties--> device manager. Under computer does it say Standard PC or ACPI Multiprocessor PC? I had the same problem with my dual core until I realized I set-up the install wrong. My computer was running VERY slow also, only utilizing one core. Task Manager only showed one core also.

Windows runs very slow. When on the internet, explorer or mozilla offen freezes momemtarily when clicking links or opening new windows. Opening programs that normally take 1-2 seconds take 15-20 seconds. Sorting through mail in thunderbird is very slow. Clicking icons in Thunderbird to write mail, etc,, is very slow. It is acting simialr to when I have had a computer with very little memory or very little CPU power... but that does not appear to be the case here. The more windows I open or try to do more things at once.. makes it even slower...sometimes takes a few second just to change between windows on the decktop.... this is a relativly new problem... it ran much faster a few months ago.

I don't see anything crying for attention...but I would take the following steps based on the premise that any number of files are corrupted:

a.  Run the chkdsk /r command.
b.  Run the sfc /scannow command.
c.  Uninstall Norton, use something else in its stead.

IMO, nothing visible that I can see as a problem.

I really don't see where any Windows critical updates have been installed, other than a few which are available as separate downloads from Microsoft.  Considering that there are more than 100 of such...that would be a concern for me.

Ad-Aware listed as scheduled item, no indication that Ad-Aware is installed.

If you are using the Comcast version of Norton Security Suite...it has been discontinued.  I would uninstall it, via Add/Remove Programs and use any one of the reiiable free AV solutions (other than Comodo) and the Windows firewall.

I suspect that you have corrupted/damaged system files...so I suggest first running the chkdsk /r command, followed by the sfc /scannow command.

OK, I'm going out on a limb here. I see two problems right off the bat.

First he has Acrobat 2.0 and Adobe reader 11 installed, and likely interfering with each other. Check the errors. Acrobat includes an old version of the reader.

Second he has both Office 2007 and Office 2010 installed. Problem? How did he do that. by the way? 2010 usually tells the user to uninstall the old version or does it for him.

Two versions of Java, 6 and 7, plus JavaFX, likely interfering.

What's with the Windows Search failures?

Also, multiple AV/malware suites, likely interfering.

Someone a LOT smarter than me needs to go through that whole list and weed out the duplicates and junk. The problem with uninstalling is that few uninstallers clean out everything, and you're left with a messed up Registry.

IMHO, this might be one case where a total reinstall would be the quickest and best answer, at least that's what I'd do. Back up all data files first.

UPDATE:  after posting the logs here, I rebooted the computer.  It would not reboot. The fan came on real loud 3 times and then 1 beep.  I tried several time, same thing. I cleaned out the box, reseated all the cards and memory.  Trying to reboot again, the machine tried to booted to and old drive I have in the machine.. and could not boot properly into windows. I unplugged the old drive and the machine booted normally into windows. The only issue was that the Comcast Norton would not activate. I uninstalled it and installed the new version from Comcast. It is still running very slowly as before. So now I am wondering if my problem could be hardware, and or software...

I think I have all the critical updates installed. I will follow hamluis recommendations.

That's pretty normal for a drive being used by the OS. Let it do the test during your next boot.
