Hi all,

I tried solving this on my own but not sure what in the world is going on. I followed all the suggested steps before starting a thread...EXCEPT creating a backup. I will buy an external hard drive this week in order to back up to. I tried backing up to my computer but Windows would not let me since I boot from my E:// drive. I have a C:// drive which is a SSD and an E:// drive which is my storage drive.

Issues:

- About a week ago my computer randomly shut off/re-started while playing League of Legends. Thought the power flickered or something, but it didn't.

- Then it restarted itself again a few minutes later while playing again...thought it was just an odd occurrence.

- Two days ago got on the internet and started seeing popups and ads...knew something was up so I ran Avast (I am a pro subscriber).

- Did not put two and two together but pretty sure these issues are all linked.

- Computer has restarted itself once more while playing League.

- Also when playing a game it decides to minimize to the desktop every min or two.

- When typing on the internet it clicks off the page or something to where I have to click the text box again to resume typing (the mouse does not move).

- Ran a few additional programs (ADW Cleaner, Malwarebytes, Hitmanpro) and now no popups, but still issues with computer...something is definitely wrong.

- Also keep getting disconnected from my internet every 10-20mins.

- Razr Game Booster thingy kept finding Yontoo. Not until I ran Hitmanpro and ADW Cleaner did it no longer show up.

Computer:

- Running Windows 7 Ultimate - 64bit

- Intel Core i7-2600k CPU @ 3.40 GHz

- 8GB DDR3 Ram

Thanks in advance for any help or assistance.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

step1.gif In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/520884 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

step2.gifIf you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from the following link if you no longer have it available and save it to your destop.

    DDS.com Download Link
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control can be found HERE.

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

Hello eertelppa

I would like to welcome you to the Malware Removal section of the forum.

Around here they call me Gringo and I will be glad to help you with your malware problems.

Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!

  • Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
    • We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability.
  • Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
    • Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post.
  • Please read every post completely before doing anything.
    • Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process.
  • Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
    • A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.
NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the "Follow This Topic" Button, make sure that the "Receive notification" box is checked and that it is set to "Instantly" - This will send you an e-mail as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing us to resolve the issue faster.

NOTE: Backup any files that cannot be replaced. Removing malware can be unpredictable and this step can save a lot of heartaches if things don't go as planed. You can put them on a CD/DVD, external drive or a pen drive, anywhere except on the computer.

NOTE: It is good practice to copy and paste the instructions into notepad and print them in case it is necessary for you to go offline during the cleanup process. To open notepad, navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Please remember to copy the entire post so you do not miss any instructions.

These are the programs I would like you to run next, if you have any problems with one of these just skip it and move on to the next one.

-AdwCleaner-

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Scan.
  • After the scan is complete click on "Clean"
  • Confirm each time with Ok.
  • Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
-Junkware-Removal-Tool-

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.
When they are complete let me have the two reports and let me know how things are running.

Hi Gringo,

Sorry for the delay I did see your message. Tonight when I arrive home from work I will use my newly purchased external harddrive to back all my important stuff up. Shame on me for not have already doing that, since I have been worrying for a few days now that if I lost stuff it would be a loss of 100s of hours since I scan and edit all my photography (big hobby) that is done using film. Thus scanning and editting again would be months of work. I purchased a HD online and had it shipped here today, so I will be able to do this tonight.

Once I have everything backed up I will perform the two requests and post the required logs.

Thanks for your help and patience. Hopefully we can get things working again.

Hi Gringo,
Ok everything is now backed up. I used the Windows Backup which I hope is ok. Oddly my computer is showing around 250gb of used space (between my SSD and HD), although my backup size was like 400gb. I assume that is normal. Also don't think it matters, but I ejected the external harddrive and it told me it was ok to disconnect, when I did my computer shut down.

I have ran the two programs you requested and the logs are below. Thanks.

I have not noticed any of the previous problems, but I have not been using the computer much. For the past 30mins or so I have not been disconnected from the internet nor the computer shut down (although it was only shutting down when playing a game) nor have I been "clicked off" of a text box when typing. Usually (the past few weeks) when typing into a box like this one right now I would all of a sudden hear the pinging sound as somehow I was no longer typing in the box. Although like I said until I backed up the computer today, I have not used the computer for ~7 days.

Hello eertelppa,

I Would like you to do the following.

Please print out or make a copy in notepad of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Run Combofix:

You may be asked to install or update the Recovery Console (Win XP Only) if this happens please allow it to do so (you will need to be connected to the internet for this)

Before you run Combofix I will need you to turn off any security software you have running, If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<

Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job this is normal.

You can download Combofix from one of these links. I want you to save it to the desktop and run it from there.1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you receive an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"
  • In your next post I need the following
  • Log from Combofix
  • let me know of any problems you may have had
  • How is the computer doing now?
Gringo

I had no issues running the program. Things already seem better. A few of the issues I have not experienced, but then again I have not been utilizing the computer to ensure it is back to 100%.
The issue of it not allowing me to type in text boxes has not re-appeared (where it was just randomly "clicking" outside of a text box in which I had to move my mouse and click back into the box (I don't believe it was moving my mouse though).
I have not issued being kicked off the internet or my wireless connection anymore.
I have not played the game, but have not experienced the machine randomly re-starting itself.

Thanks again for all your help. I want to do everything I can to make sure it is clean and gone, to avoid it lingering around.

Gringo, is there a chance it could have "moved" to my external harddrive?
What if it was copied over, is this something I should be concerned about if I ever have to restore from the harddrive?
Once this is all complete if I do another backup does it overwrite the previous one?

Sorry for so many questions, take your time in answering.

Regards,
Austin

Hello Austin

Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit

1.Download Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit
2.Unzip the contents to a folder in a convenient location.
3.Open the folder where the contents were unzipped and run mbar.exe
4.Follow the instructions in the wizard to update and allow the program to scan your computer for threats.
5.Click on the Cleanup button to remove any threats and reboot if prompted to do so.
6.Wait while the system shuts down and the cleanup process is performed.
7.Perform another scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to verify that no threats remain. If they do, then click Cleanup once more and repeat the process.
8.If no additional threats were found, verify that your system is now running normally, making sure that the following items are functional:
  • •Internet access
    •Windows Update
    •Windows Firewall
9.If there are additional problems with your system, such as any of those listed above or other system issues, then run the 'fixdamage' tool included with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit and reboot.
10.Verify that your system is now functioning normally.

Hi Gringo,

Well first of all no issues found on the computer as of late, although once again have not been actively using the computer. Afraid to use it until we have everything wrapped up. Have yet to be disconnected from the wireless router, or had the computer shutdown randomly, or had issues with the typing in text boxes on the web and computer.

Mbar did not find any issues whatsoever and thus I was not able to click on the cleanup button or perform additional scans or generate a report. Let me know if this is an issue.

I just ran Mbar a second time (after typing this message and thus after I performed the rougekiller...hopefully this isn't a problem. Just wanted to see if it found anything this time and still nothing found during the scan and it indicated "no cleanup required".

Also I hope that is the right file for roguekiller, neither of the ones on my desktop are titled RKreport[2].txt. They both are RKreport[0](followed by a string of numbers). The report below is the one I copied after clicking on report within the program itself.

Thanks again for all your help. I will be donating afterwards for all your assistance and time.

Hi Gringo,

I believe things are back to normal now. Thanks so much for all your help. I will donate since you were such a huge help. Thanks again.

Any idea what was actually wrong with the computer?

Best,

Austin

Hello Austin

looks like it just need some cleaning out

At this time I would like you to run this script for me and it is a good time to check out the computer to see if there is anything else that needs to be addressed.

:Run CFScript:

Please start by opening Notepad and copy/paste the text in the box into the window:

ClearJavaCache::

Save it to your desktop as CFScript.txt

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe
CFScriptB-4.gif
This will let ComboFix run again.
Restart if you have to.
Save the produced logfile to your desktop.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note 2: If you receive an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

"information and logs"
  • In your next post I need the following
    • report from Combofix
    • let me know of any problems you may have had
    • How is the computer doing now after running the script?
