I am honestly very new at this. I have no idea what is going on with my laptop. I have been coming to starbucks for just about three months now, since my sister took Wifi away from me at the house. Before last thursday/friday, maybe once a week or so I would get disconnected from the wifi, maybe for only a few seconds but no more than that. Since last thursday/friday though? I am getting disconnected more and more.

My laptop is a year old. Thus far I have taken good care of it. Not dropped it or spilled anything on it.

I am getting rather frustrated with getting disconnected. Whenever I do troubleshooting it tells me that I need to be sure I am in range of the router, but I am. Also sometimes tells me that I am having DNS connection problems.

A friend of mine has tried some simple fixes and they work, for maybe fifteen minutes. And then I get disconnected again. I have noticed that when I am in starbucks, there are others using the Wifi as well. Yet they do not seem to be having the same problem as me, heck they don't even have that problem. I have pretty good hearing, and no one has thus far complained about the internet.

I did forget to mention that two weeks ago they changed from AT&T to Google, for Wifi. And for the first week, to week and a half my internet was perfect. No disconnects no nothing. Not until last Thursday orFriday.

You state your sister took Wifi away from you? Why does she have control of the Wifi, are you having to stay at her house, or do you stay at home and she takes care of the Wifi? Sorry for asking, but I was curious as to why that was happening...

As far as the Starbucks situation goes, please explain to us what your friend did to help you with your connection problems. Knowing what they did will prevent us from repeating the same steps already tried.

Alright, well yes my sister controls the Wifi at the house, I do not have the password to it, and I cannot log on. She took Wifi access away from me due to the fact that I play an MMO that she does not like at all, and holds a grudge against. Long story there.

Back to the internet. He turned off the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and made it so my computer has it's own IP address so that the internet at Starbucks recognizes my computer has it's own address. I cannot remember what all he has done. I will however get a hold of him and update this response here when I know. He said he did all of the basics that he knows since he doesn't know any advanced stuff about Networking. I myself don't know very much about it.

Starbucks may have a captive portal in place that assigns you a new ip address once you agree to their TOS when you open your browser. I would un-assign the static ip address from the computer and let Starbucks give you a new ip address from DHCP.

You may unassign the static ip address by doing the following:

1.Assuming you're using Windows 7 type: network and sharing center into the search box once you click start.

2.On the left, click change adapter settings.

3. Find the wireless adapter that you're using and right click and go to properties.

4. Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP /IPv4) and then click on Properties.

5. Change it from Use the following.. to Obtain an ip address automatically...

6. Change the DNS servers to 208.67.222.222 for the primary and 208.67.220.220  for the secondary.

7.Click ok and then click ok again.

8. Post back the results as to what happens when you revisit Starbucks.

*It may also help us diagnose the problem if you can run a MiniToolBox log for me.*

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark all the  checkboxes:

Click Go and paste the content into your next post. (Results.txt) *DO NOT ATTACH IT*

Before I do this, should I restart my laptop after I follow these instructions?

As for the instructions the IP address settings are already set to that. If I can find away to post the photo will show you the snip it I took of it.

That is what my friend changed everything to. Apparently he went into the CMD on my laptop and did ipconfig/all and took the information from there and created an IP address from that for me.

Restarting will not affect the results either way tbh. You can if you'd like for ease of mind :thumbup2:

Well then as of right now? My internet seems to be intact. But Whenever my friend, Cb would fix it little by little, the internet would work for, a few moments, to a few hours, when he gave me the IP Address it worked for afull day and a half then went back to disconnecting me. The picture I provided above were the settings he gave me the first time we changed it.

Well sadly, since the DNS and minitoolbox instructions... I have disconnected twice. I am really hoping it is not the wireless internet card in my computer.

I notice you have a lot of Tunnel Devices that are enabled. Let's try to disable them, and see what happens.

Do the same steps that was provided above for the IP address. When you get to the adapter settings, right click every adapter that is present except for the wireless adapter and choose disable. Also for testing, it won't hurt to uninstall LogMeIn (Version: 4.1.3888). If the problem persists with it being removed, then you may simply reinstall it.

*IF none of the steps above resolves the issues, please try the following.. MAKE sure your IP ADDRESS is set to obtain automatically and not static*

Go Start>Run>type in:
cmd
Click OK (press Enter).

In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
net stop "dns client"
net start "dns client"

Restart computer.

If that doesn't work...
Go Start>Run>type in:
cmd
Click OK (press Enter).

At Command Prompt, type in:
netsh int ip reset reset.log
Hit Enter.
Type in:
netsh winsock reset catalog
Hit Enter.

Restart computer.

post back the results.

ALSO, you have a lot of signature errors with MSE. I would recommend you uninstall MSE from your system as it's not recommended anymore for virus protection. Also, you have AVG 2014 plus MSE installed, so removing MSE will fix that problem as well.

I did uninstall MSE, and did as you instructed in the first part. So far so good. If it disconnects I will run the second set of instructions and tell you what happened.

Ok so I did disconnect and I did the second set of instructions. I tried to make my own IP address following the ipconfig/all and finding the right info for it. but since there was not a default gateway I did not know what to do so I went back to letting it give me an IP address. As for posting the results? Is there any way to post what happened or no? Sorry still not used to all this internet issues.

You had a disconnect after doing the:

netsh int ip reset reset.log
Hit Enter.
Type in:
netsh winsock reset catalog
Hit Enter.

?

Have you uninstalled Logmein for testing? When I mentioned post back the results, I just meant to let us know good or bad if it fixed the problem.
