It seems my 4-month old laptop running Windows 8.1 64 bit has already run into a multitude of probs.  First off, I can't open System Restore through any method, be it through the System Properties or by typing rstrui.exe in CMD.  Next, Windows Installer seems to be having major problems, and everytime I try to install a program or driver, it never completes, with the progress bar getting stucked somewhere in between.  I will then have to end the task through Task Manager.  And, to top it all off, the Registry seems to be having permission errors as evident by the error message MS Office gives me everytime I try to reinstall or repair the program.  I finally followed a tutorial here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-office_install/error-1402-setup-cannot-open-the-registry-key/42f5ea53-c3a5-49e0-b5e5-0eca72659eed

That seemed to fix the MS Office problem, but not the other problems I am having.  Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
