Hello!

I recently assembled a new computer, which I documented here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/519771/w7-wont-boot-system-repair-restore-do-nothing/

After installing W7, I used my motherboard's driver disc to install the latest drivers for my components, and then went online to get the latest drivers for my GPU.

Windows has been running stably since I installed it, but I've gotten at least 3 bluescreens since I started using it 2 days ago, as opposed to the zero I had on my last setup.

I don't know what information is relevant or where the dumps are, so I'll provide details as needed.

Here's a couple of things to start.

Please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

and

Download BlueScreenView:

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.

when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All

Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt

Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply. Thank you.

The only thing that caught my eye is that the RAM is being read as single channel. Is it suppose to be single channel? If so it may not be powerful enough to support your computer. You have a good motherboard so I'm sure that dual channel or better is suggested. Also I read your other post and HDD came up, one of the errors can be HDD related. I would also reccomend going to the motherboard manufacturer's website and download the lastest drivers as those on your disk may be outdated.

Well...let's look at the media used for this install.  New install reflects 8 Jan as install date...what's the origin of the media used?

For a 2-day old install to have BSODs with no indication of hardware problems...IMO, points to the install media or malware...or both.I see no evidence of an AV program or firewall being used, which certainly increases vulnerability to malware.

Psge Fault In Nonpaged Area

Just for the sake of it...might as well run Memtest86+ on your single module.

I've only got one 8gb stick of RAM, which I assume accounts for it being single channel. I was told that a single channel is alright if the size is big enough, but is that not true?

By "the origin of the media used," do you mean where was the Windows install from? A friend passed it over to me on a USB stick. I suppose that sounds pretty suspicious. If it's the OS itself being unstable, then I'm strapped for options short of just installing Linux.

I feel like it can't be malware - I haven't gone to any sites that I don't normally go to, and I also run no-script. But I was going to get a firewall and AV program. Should I do a MalwareBytes scan?

The Page Fault in Nonpaged Area link points back to this topic. For Memtest86+, am I to get something like DaemonTools to mount the ISO? I don't know how to deal with a BIN file.

From what I've read...the differences between single-channel versus dual-channel exist...but are not necessarily likely to show up in system performance unless owner/user is benchmarking.  So, there's a real difference...but it's likely not to be noticeable since the amount of RAM installed is really a greater factor than whether the system is in single-channel or dual-channel mode.

As for the origin of your media used...Microsoft does not make Windows so that an install on one system can be duplicated on another system.  They view such behavior as an invitation to piracy and violation of their EULA for using Windows.

Test passed, no errors.

KingdomSeeker, I completely missed your drivers sentence. I'll check the website again later today, but I think it's all the latest (I'm not at my computer right now). Also, the HDD was randomly brought up in the topic - my boot drive is an SSD, and I haven't had any issues with my secondary HDD.

Edit: I've installed Windows 8 Firewall Control and BitDefender Antivirus Free. Both BD and MalwareBytes found nothing on a system scan.

I would remove Windows 8 Firewall Control and just use the Windows Firewall.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Doesn't W8FC use the Windows Firewall, but just allows for more direct connection to what gets in and out?

Try uninstalling AMD Accelerated Video Transcoding (Version: 13.20.100.31206), it's no longer supported.

Uninstall Easy Tune 6.

Install Visual C++ 2005 and Visual C++ 2008

Read This  for info on The platform firmware has corrupted memory across the previous system power transition..

You might skip my first two suggestions and move to the next two...then see how the system runs before making any other changes.

I installed C++ 2008, but when I tried to install 2005 it would start the install process and then just stop itself.

The reading material says to update my BIOS, which is at its latest.

I uninstalled Easy Tune 6, but I don't know how to uninstall the Accelerated Video Transcoding.

I haven't had any issues since when I started this thread (with the exception of a system freeze I got shortly after the 3 BSODs), so I wonder if the instability is just over.

Something is wrong...the version of Visual C should have installed on your system.  Any number of versions can be installed on a system at one time.  Older apps may need older versions and there are no conflicts between the different versions.

What is ModifyRegistry version 0.1 (Version: 0.1)

I don't know. I don't recall installing that.
