Just received this email from eBay:

"[eBay Logo]

Dear eBay Member!

During our regularly schedule account maintenance and verification we have detected a slight error in your billing information on file with eBay. Your card will be used for identification only and will not be charged at any time. By having this type of identification from all users, eBay remains a safe place to buy and sell. Setting up a seller account necessitates valid credit or debit card and checking account information. For automatic payments, your credit card will normally be charged 5 to 7 days after you receive your invoice. Enter and submit the required information. Your account may be suspended for non-payment, and you may be responsible for collection costs.

[Please click here for confirmation of your account]

Be sure it is important to mind this issue. Although it could seem to be a little inconvenient we do it only for your data and account protection. The only purpose is to provide secure storing of your account.
The eBay Team Copyright 1999-2006 eBay. "

This has to be as phony as a three dollar bill. Never seen anything like this before. eBay does not now have and has never had my credit card info. PayPal, yes, eBay, no. I have never sold anything on eBay and am not a registered seller.

I do not see any missplelling but please note the poor syntax and wording of several sentences. And the threat, "suspended for non-payment," "responsible for collection costs."

I just emailed eBay about this. Are there internet cops that I can report this to?

Thanks for a prompt response.

Sadly enough, there are people that still fall for it.
Reporting it does little good. Most of it originates overseas and the site collecting the personal data usually closes or changes before anybody can do anything about it. It's a hit-and-run operation.

That I would be willing to bet did not come from eBay. Forward it to ebay at spoof@ebay.com . Do not alter the email, just forward it as is. I get several of these a day. I sent 3 in this morning.

I've been getting that same email repeatedly for the last half a year or so. I always delete them.
